With the small amount of talent this season possesses, I had a really hard time picking out a favorite. By the time the entire group of Top 24 had performed in there first week of LIVE! showcasing, I had my favorites picked. Though some like Lily Scott, Alex Lambert and Katelyn Epperly have been eliminated, I still have a couple of favorites hanging around. I'm siding with four, but I'm sure about only three of them.

Starting my list is the 24 year old single mom, Crystal Bowersox, from Ohio. Crystal tore herself away and ahead of the pack early on with performances that bring to mind the likes of Janis Joplin, Alanis Morisette and Sheryl Crow. She can not only sing, but sing really well. Along with the guitar and dread-locks, she was misjudged earlier as the hippie chick. But as time has gone by, she has proved that not only does she have the goods but she also knows how to use them right. She's the one I'm rooting for before everyone else.

The sad thing about her is that she doesn't have that wholesome appeal the American Idol wants, and that just may cost her gold. But even if she doesn't win, if left to her true artistic nature and not mold her into cookie-cutter pop, she can carve out her own Grammy.

Second in the list is the 23 year old rocker from Illinois, Lee DeWyze. Lee is the under-dog of the season, having being pimped next-to-nothing and coming across the camera first-time in the second solo round of Hollywood when he sang 'You Found Me'. His raspy vocals exude a grunge-like feel that remind me very much of the Season 7 winner, David Cook.

While he is still ahead of the pack simply because of his vocals, he needs to give us a taste of his artistic ability. He needs to pick up a song and completely switch it up. If not, then he should cover bands like Kings of Leon, My Chemical Romance, Creed and Radioplay. But I'm still on the option of changing up a song and making it up his own.

Third on the list is the 16 year old Aaron Kelly from Pennsylvania who happens to share the same birthday as Lee. Okay, don't give me those looks, it's a piece of trivia that my sister has stumbled upon and is not letting go.

Aaron here is extremely commercial and also pretty talented. What puts him on spot 3, is that he lacks the experience which Lee and Crystal have. That is what puts them ahead of him in the competition. Sailing on the common roads of Pop & Country, this kid is going straight ahead. Right now he's sweeping the grand-ma votes all over America. I'm expecting him to go smooth till Top 7 at least and then maybe fall into a rough spot. But like I said, he's extremely commercial so he's got the nod from the judges. He's yet to mess up, his song choices are spot on. This kid is in it to give some mean competition.

Now I'm completely sure about these three, but about the next one I'm not so sure. Siobhan Magnus, the 20 year old screecher from Massachusetts. Now if you notice the picture on the right, can you guess what she's doing?

You're probably guessing she is screaming, screeching, hitting a high note or something along the same lines. And this is what has dropped her to the lowest spot on the list of my favorites. These high notes are getting on my nerves, no doubt they are her best assets. But right now she's exploiting them to the point that they are becoming a concussive blows to her image. She needs to go lower in her register and gives us some artistic insight, so that we have an idea what kind of album she will be putting out if she wins. I'm hoping she gets back on the train that's going ahead. If she does, she definitely has a spot in the Top 6.

About the rest, they haven't wowed me much yet. I'm getting abit of the winner's vibe from Casey James, but nothing from the rest. They're above average at best!

American Idol Top 11; Miley Cyrus Mentors!

Top 11 week was clouded with mysteries. The most important being where did all the talent go?! Seriously, is this the bunch that has to compete as the next-big thing in the entertainment industry. Season 9 is turning out to be a huge disappointment and I'm really sad at that. At such a crucial night when the people making it to the American Idol LIVE! Summer Tour were supposed to be decided, majority of the contestants delivered lackluster performances that show cased absolutely nothing. The only two managed who managed to save themselves some dignity were Cyrstal Bowersox and Aaron Kelly. Otherwise everyone fell flat on their pretty faces.

Last week they announced the theme as Teen Idol with a mystery mentor. There were speculations of Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus taking the stage. The odds were stacked equally on both sides due to Swift's recent Grammy shower and Cyrus's soon-to-be-released movie; The Last Song. A few days later Team Cyrus won the war much to my disappointment. Firstly because she's older than only two of the contestants present and she doens't have that much experience.

Her advice did work in the areas of making a mark, but artistically speaking she couldn't offer much. Truly speaking, it isn't her fault. She still has much to learn. Paige Miles was eliminated, along with Tim Urban and Katie Stevens in the Bottom 3. The thing that is the real issue here is Tim Urban, scrapping just enough votes to be one slot above Paige. If this keeps going on, Tim just might go further and eliminate some of the contestants than have more potential talent. And no offense to the Urban clan, but that is really going to suck.

Next week the Top 11 tackle R&B palette, with Usher mentoring. I'm interested in seeing how Crystal and Casey perform, because these two are treading a most unfriendly turf with this genre.

It's been quite sometime since I have put up an album review on my blog, so I decided to tell you guys about an artist I discovered sometime back. Erik Hassle is a 21 year old Swedish singer and composer who released his debut album Pieces recently. Given that it's a swedish product, I'm surprised from the content. It's a simple direct pop record, nothing fancy. And frankly speaking, it works quite well for him. I'm actually love this album alot.

Like I mentioned about it being a genuine pop record, there is a wide-spread pop feel to the album. Even though you do get the dance feel on some tracks and the catchy tracks are pretty much genius lyrics. My favorites are 'Hurtful', 'Isn't It Obvious', 'Wanna Be Loved', 'First Time' and 'Love Me To Pieces'. These tracks are somewhat quick paced, but what really draws me into them are the lyrics. I'm completely in awe of the lyrics, the 21 year old Erik has definitely made his mark on me as a lyricist. Simple, smooth flowing, well crafted, meaningful; that's what comes to my mind when I listen to his song. The beats are nothing to bleh about either. I'd recommend that you definitely listen to these five tracks.

'Bump In The Road' is a really good track to start of the record, after struggling nearly 5 years in the music industry this track definitely tells us that it's worth not giving up. Once again, the lyrics are meaningful and they literally self-draw a mental picture in your brain. Excellent way to start off an album.

'Don't Bring Flowers' is another cool number, and also the second single. I'm not entirely feeling this track, but it's a hit amongst my friends so I'm guessing there is something to it. It's good, but not great. 'The Thanks I Get', 'Bitter End' and 'Make It In Time' also get the same treatment from me. I feel that if he had possibly made them some more upbeat, they could have had alot more oomph in them.

'All That I Wanted' and 'Back To Bed' do absolutely nothing for me. And these tracks are the only ones that leave me disappointed big time, I feel they're alot more R&B than pop and that is why they don't seem to be making their points as much as the others.

The album was recently released in UK under the title of 'Pieces' with one track completely replaced and some of the track re-arranged. 'Hurtful' which was the first single to be released, was re-released with a new video. You can check it out here!

American Idol Top 12; It Was a Good Night!

The Top 12 took the stage this week with the songbook of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, that's right people! The Rolling Stones were at their mercy, or was it the other way round?!

At any rate, the Idols did a respectable job. There were some clear stand-outs, and one contestant definitely came under my spotlight this week. Starting off with my eternal favorite Crystal Bowersox, who was the last to go, kicked it out of the hall once again. I loved her bluesy country-vibe infused 'You Can't Always Get What You Want', I absolutely loved it. I'm really rooting for her to win this season. Idol needs another wholesome kick-ass wonder, like Carrie Underwood. Siobhan Magnus performed 'Paint It Black', though very predictable. But she still wowed me, alot. The falsetto note at the end simply left me breathless. This girl has her highs and lows all in the right places. And I do agree with Simon that she doesn't have to scream at the end of every performance. But I love her. Love her!!

As I mentioned there was a limelight shift, and for the first time since Hollywood Week I noticed Didi Benami. I loved her. Her phrasing was exquisite and that slight 'Don't-mess-with-me' tone in her voice was very much necessary Because people were starting to think she was just another Brooke White, though that was a compliment. But she needs to make her own ground now and she did just that this week. Lee also broke into his own, but I don't seem him making a pop-rock record. He's got that gruff grunge vibe to him. He needs to pick David Cook's book and take a few pages from it. Aaron and Cassie also did a commendable job.

Big Mike took on 'Miss You', and while it was good. He needs to loosen up his 'likable' act, he's naturally appeasing. He's like a warm fuzzy bear, so he needs to drop it. It's coming off as desperate and possibly even irritating. Another one who needs to shake it loose is Andrew Garcia. While this week he gave me some star quality, he needs to bring it week to week. Lacey did a respectable job, but her performance was dull. I expected she would be in danger, along with Tim and Paige. Tim, the VFTW Golden Boy, possibly gave the worst ever performance this week. He's in close competition with Paige from last week. Katie Griffins, eh...plain and boring. I'm still sad that she got into Top 12 instead of Lily Scott.

I expected Tim, Paige and Lacey to be in bottom three, with Paige going home. But I was only half right. Lacey went home.

David Cook, Orianthi and Ke$ha took the stage on result's night. David Cook was amazing, as usual. But I can't say the same for the latest princess of pop, Ke$ha. She so can't perform LIVE! and the song 'Blah Blah Blah' is so freak'in annoying.

Next week the Top 11 take on the Billboard Number 1 with a surprise mentor, I'm all excited. I'm hoping Paige does some R&B, because I feel that is where she could really shine.

American Idol Top 16; You Have To Be Kidding Me!!!

So the Top 16 took the stage this week and they gave us a couple of real good performances. Back on schedule, the girls took the stage on Tuesday night. As usual Crystal Bowersox and Lilly Scott were complete stand-outs. They were clearly leading the pack, and as the show goes on I getting the feel that Siobhan Magnus is also in their league. Last week she blew us away with her pipes singing 'Think', this week she gave us a haunting but devoted rendition of 'House of Rising Sun'. I'm beginning to like her more and more. Katelyn also gave us a rather entertaining performance.

Katie and Paige completely fell off the track. During Hollywood week there was a scene of Kara saying that Katie might win this season. Seriously? And Simon keeps mentioning what an amazing voice Paige has. Seriously? I haven't seen any of these two ladies give something that will wow me. Didi took a step front this week along with Lacey. The girls fared well.

Wednesday night, the guys took the stage. I absolutely loved Lee's take on Owl City's 'Fireflies', I loved how he took that complete pop song and turned it into some more alternative. This guy is so giving me the David Cook vibe. I'm waiting for him to pull a 'Billie Jean' or 'Always Be My Baby', and it's not even funny. Alex also appealed to me this week. I'm totally not digging Andrew Garcia or Todrick for that matter, Andrew is turning everything acoustic. The judges loved Big Mike's 'A Woman Work', but I really don't see the hype about him either. Is he likeable? Yes, he is. But I see him as another Ruben Studdard, and we don't need another Ruben Studdard.

This week the Top 12 were also to be revealed and believe me, the elimination was a shocker. Todrick, Alex, Katelyn and Lilly went home. To be honest, I really didn't care about Todrick and was expecting him to go home. He had lost momentum ever since Hollywood Round, just like Andrew Garcia.

But the other three?!

I'm completely shocked over the elimination of Alex and Lilly. I was expecting Tim or Aaron to get the boot for Alex. And same for Lily. I thought Paige, Lacey or Katie would be going home instead of her and Katelyn. I'm seriously feeling the loose of these three amazing contestants. Had they survived, I'm sure we would have seen some amazing performances.

Alex Lambert had one of the most recording friendly voices I have ever heard. Katelyn had that pop commercial vibe. Given a selection of the right songs, this girl could be an amazing artist.

And Lily! My favorite girl after Crystal. I loved her quirkiness. And best yet, she had talent. Her indie-jazz styling was something Idol had never experienced before. She was indeed one-of-a-kind.

I'm hoping these three get record deals and someday I write their album review on the Soul Board. So the Top 12 were revealed and I'm disappointed. I've got my favorites picked and I doubt that I'll be changing any of them any time soon.

American Idol Top 20; Finally Something!

Second week into the competition and now I feel that American Idol has really started. There was a marked improvement collectively speaking since last week and the eliminations were mostly fair. Last week the girls had proved they were somewhat better than the guys, and it was still the girls in the lead.

Tuesday Night the girls were supposed to take the stage, however Crystal Bowersox's health gave them one more day to prepare and the guys were put on for the night. There were better song choices and they appeared more comfortable and confident as well. Lee DeWyze is my favorite amongst the guys, that grunge feel in his voice is very David Cook. But the dude who really took the spotlight this week was 19 year old Alex Lambert. Last week he sucked big time.But all that changed this week with a much better song choice, 'Everybody Knows'. Aaron Kelly was also a stand-out, however I imagine him more as a Country Pop Artist rather than an R&B artist, it would be better if he sticks to the advice Kara gave. And the Justin Bieber comment was completely idiotic. Why, Simon?! Why?

Andrew had set the bar really high with 'Straight Up' during Hollywood week and as a consequence, he is not able to match up to it. However I'm sure he will be in Top 12. Along with Casey James and Michael Lynch. People I am expecting to go home next week are Todrick Hall and possibly, Tim Urban. Check out VFTW Campaign to keep him in. Hilarious!

Wednesday Night the girls were back on track and I was so relieved to see Crystal Bowersox performing. And yes, she was completely amazing. I'm so glad she didn't pull the sympathy act and Simon said that he had underestimated her. Hell yeah!!

I liked Haeley's arrangement on 'The Climb', it seemed alot more Country than the original version. However the vocals didn't please me that much. And it was sad to see her go, cuz an African American Country artist is a big big thing. But I get it. I do wish her luck!

We also said good-bye to Michelle Delamor, and she made a completely wrong choice of song. 'With Arms Wide Open' by Creed, it was a risk but it didn't prove to work for her. Last week her rendition of 'Fallin' of Alica Keys was good. This week not so much. Had she chosen a different song, I'm pretty darn sure we would have said good-bye to Lacey Brown this week. She wasn't good at all!

The extremely pimped Katie Stevens also hasn't managed to wow me yet. But I guarantee that she will be in Top 12. Idol always has that one 'cute-as-a-button' girl, ALWAYS!

Two other female contestants that I'm rooting for are Katelyn Eperly and Lilly Scott. Lilly is officially the coolest contestant this year, right after Crystal Bowersox. I love that urban-indie vibe from her. Plus she's a complete stand-out from the pack. Didi is another Brooke White, however not as lovable as her. Sorry, Didi!

The two guys who went home were Jermaine Sellers and John Parks. Not surprised and satisfied. They both had not given anything to wow me yet. And they both don't see as vocally good as the rest of the guys. One week more and then America get's it Top 12. I'm excited. What about you?

Complete Me; Frankmusik

Over the past one year I've started listening to alot of English musician, it's not just the likes of Leona Lewis, Adele and Duffy that have grown on me. Some of their dance influenced acts have also established themselves firmly in my playlist. One of the act I'll be telling you about today is the 24 year old British Electropop act, Vincent Frank aka Frankmusik.

He debuted in 2008 with the song 'In Step' and it was soon followed by another song '3 Little Words', both tracks made it to the debut disc that was released in 2009. The record Complete Me, which has been grown extremely successful in dance clubs is definitely one of the catchiest album I've heard for quite some time.

The song have been written and produced entirely by Frankmusik himself. Given that he has remixed several of the current act tracks, he had a good idea of what will the public like to hear. The result was a creative one man show pop record. I'm completely in love with it. And for about the past week, I've been listening to nothing but a mix play list of Frankmusik and Alphabeats.

Complete Me reached number 13 spot on the UK Charts and 88 on Irish. It also earned Frankmusik a position of BBC Sounds of 2009 list, which had Little Boots on the first place. Over all, I'd give this record 8 out of 10. Being a expert on the electric keyboard and piano, the influence of these instruments can be clearly noticed on the tracks. Plus his music videos are really cool. They remind me off the Robbie Williams during his early solo years

I'm either in love with or liking every track off the record. The only two tracks I can't digest are 'Done Done' and 'Run Away from Trouble'. 'Done Done' is very much annoying with it's constant repetitive lyrics and 'Run Away from Trouble' puts me to sleep.

'In Step', 'Gotta Boyfriend', 'Vacant Hearts', 'Your Boy', 'Time Will Tell' and 'Better Off As Two' are my favorites. There is so much dance in this music that it is unbelievable. 'Gotta Boyfriend' and 'Time Will Tell' are complete dance anthems, and I am really surprised that they weren't chosen as singles. They could have done really well, especially the former.

'Vacant Hearts' and 'Your Boy' display the softer side of the singer and is much more refined in terms of vocals, where it's just Frankmusik and the music completely stripped down off any crazy sound effects. The song 'Confusion Girl (Shame Shame Shame)' is also a favorite of mine. It's catchy and it's good, but not as much as the ones I have mentioned previously.

'When You're Around' is another shining track. As mentioned earlier, it's a dance album so it's no surprise that this is another dance number. I would have excluded this in favor of another slow ballad type song, but I can see that why Frankmusik included it in the final cut. His comfort zone is dance, however he has taken risk with this track as it has a certain disco feel to it. 'Wonder Woman' is also nice, but it's very similar to the rest.

'Complete Me' is something that is reminiscent of a ballad, it's good but 'Your Boy' and 'Vacant Heart' are much better than it. 'Olivia' is most definitely the only track which seems to be sung by a British, there is a very Adele type feel to it. It's cool, but I'm not finding the falsetto very appealing. Especially around the parts when he stretches the notes, for a bonus track it's not as good as it should be. If you can't get it, believe me you're not missing out anything epic.

Saving the best for the last is the track 'In Step', which is also the first single off the record. Off the whole pack, it is the most catchy and it was indeed a wise track to start his musical journey.

Frankmusik will be releasing his sophomore effort later this year, it's titled 'Follow the Leader' and it definitely has me excited to see what kind of music that he will be coming up with. Listen and enjoy!

American Idol Top 24 Wind-Up

I'm mega-late on posting the Top 24 Finalists on the current season of American Idol. I'm pretty sure those of you who are following the current season are well aware of all these people. We just had the first elimination the day before yesterday and now it's down to the Top 20.

Frankly speaking, I'm not impressed with this bunch. I feel the Season 8 and most definitely Season 7, had a far more talented group collectively speaking. However one thing I do have to say, that this time round there is more variety. I don't think there has been a indie singer on Idol ever before. Nor do I think there has ever been an African American Country Singer. Collectively speaking, it's an average group. However as they continue to progress(Those who progress that is), will hopefully improve as they rack up their skills on charisma, stage presence, vocals, audience interaction and the whole slew of skills needed to be an artist.

One thing I do however have to complain about is that several contestants who have reached Top 24, I feel shouldn't have been there. The two contestants who's exit surprised me greatly was the 29 year old Jazz styled, Angela Martin and the soulful 16 year old, Thaddeus Johnsson. These two people had me completely bowled over with their superb vocals. Angela's rendition of Estelle's 'American Boy'.You can check it out here.

Things however didn't turn out to be all that bad for her in the end. Ellen DeGeneres, the newly instated American Idol judge, invited Angela on her show and told her that Kara Dioguardi will be writing a song for her and she will help her in scoring a record deal. Way to go, Angela! And yeah, way to go Ellen!

Thaddeus Johnsson was the bigger upset for me, especially since after Chris Golightly was disqualified for some contracts he avoided mentioning. So anyhow, long story short, Chris was cast out and was replaced by the 20 year old college student, Tim Urban.

The camera time Chris Golightly got in Hollywood Round couldn't have been more than 15 seconds. So I have no idea how much credible of a singer he was and whether his original placing in the Top 24 was just because of his camera ready story of being an orphan since birth and the sad fact of never having a family to spend Christmas with. Thaddeus who had clearly won over with his rendition of Michael Jackson's 'Man in the Mirror'. He clearly could have been a front runner in the competition and I so badly wanted to support him. But instead we got Tim Urban, who has yet to prove himself and personally speaking, I believe his casting is just because of his good looks. They needed something the tweens could gush over. Bah, Idol producers are douche bags.

Who are my favorites?!

I do have my eyes on a couple of contestants, but I'll be revealing them later. And yes, Tyler Grady's elimination was a complete shocker. I was expecting Jermaine Sellers or Alex Lambert to go and I sincerely hope that next week they do.

Alphabeat Put A Spell On Me

I recently discovered a Danish pop band on one of the best music blogs present. I had not heard of them before but I'm completely digging their sound now. I downloaded their new album on Sunday and I've been listening to it non-stop for the past two days. It's completely awesome.

They go by the name of Alphabeats, their songs are mostly dance tracks with influence of Euro-pop. It also has kind of a discotheque feel of the 80s as well. If anyone of you happen to have mad love for dance anthems, then you need to listen to their album. I'll be putting up a review of their album really soon. I don't seem to have much time to blog nowadays because my wards are keeping me freaking busy.

If you like it, then I would suggest you to check out their other new single as well 'Hole In My Heart'. I can't seem to pick a favorite of the two, or a matter of fact the whole album.

Everybody Hurts

2010 started off with an devastating start when an earthquake of catastrophic magnitude of 7.0 struck Haiti on 12th January. Followed by over fifty aftershocks, that most deadly of which occurred on 20th January having a magnitude of 5.9. The Earthquake left over 200,000 people dead and even more injured.

People from all over the world have joined hands to help Haiti in whatever possible way. People from all walks of life have set-up relief efforts in whatever possible way they could. We had the Hope for Haiti Now telethon produced by George Clooney on 23rd January. The feature included several moving performances, most notable of which was Christina Aguilera's Life Me Up.

The songs from the telethon were recorded and presented as an album titled Hope For Haiti Now. I have personally bought the album and to those of you who can, I would recommend to do the same.

But all of this was just on the part of the American Recording Industry. The British Prime Minister got Simon Cowell to put together a charity single. Simon chose the R.E.M. song Everybody Hurts from their 1992 album.

The song features numerous British Entertainment personalities such as Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole, James Blunt, Alexandra Burke, Gary Barlow, James Morrison, Susan Boyle, Robbie Williams and many more. Also featured are artist like Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Jon Bon Jovi and Kylie Minogue.

I personally have fallen in love with this song, there is a reason Cowell is regarded as a musical genius despite his huge ego and overly-sarcastic personality.

The proceeds from the single will be going relief for Haiti and you can buy the single here.

Hands; Little Boots

English singer/songwriter Little Boots released her debut album Hands in 2009. The album contains a is a complete dance pop record with a flair of synth and electro. Heralded as the Future of Music, Little Boots did an amazing job with her debut. Penning down every track off the record either on her own or in collaboration with a song-writer. The final song cut revealed a list of the most radio ready tracks ever that will can be played at a club, party or right in your own car.

While all the tracks are good to listen to, there are some clear stand-out from the pack. 'Remedy' which has the genius touch of the RedOne is quite possibly the best track off the record. It's super catchy and it's got that subtle fighting spirit that is so notable in Little Boots' interviews. It'a a must listen according to me.

Other favorites of mine include the fast-paced 'New In Town' and the duet with Philip Oakey 'Symmetry'. The latter is a definite recommendation. I'm very surprised that this song was not chosen as a single, it is probably one of the most authentic tracks on the albums. Little Boots has done an amazing job at the lyrics along with Roy Kerr. Roy is known for penning several tracks of Lady Hawke's debut album Paris is Burning and Christina Aguilera pop-smash 'Genie In a Bottle'. 'Symmetry' is definitely worth listening to, guys!

'Meddle', 'Ghost', 'Mathematics' and 'Tune Into My Heart' are other favorites of mine. I'm sort of surprised that I like the second half of the record more than the first half. 'Click' and 'Stuck On Repeat' do absolutely nothing for me.

'Hearts Collide' will literally put you into a trance. It's ridiculously smooth flowing and will slither into your memory. It was a possible single, until recently. Little Boots will be releasing Hands in US in March 2010 and possibly tour along with the UK boy-band JLS. But the tour is still in the works.

I'm Left Speechless!!

I started posting sometime towards the end of 2009 about two brothers who were finalists on the most recent season of X-Factor. They were a pain in Simon's arse but a core to the high ratings. They stuck around till Top 6, I think.

Anyhow if you had been watching the videos I had posted, you would be aware that the brothers were not taking the competition seriously at all. They didn't sing all that good, but they were great performers. Very confident! Somewhat charismatic! A little loud-mouthed! But hey, that's just about every 17 year old boy out there!

Jedward released their first official video today. A cover of the Queens song, Under Pressure, in collaboration with David Bowie. They did it with a mash-up of Ice Ice Baby by the American rapper, Vanilla Ice. The song was ridiculous, but insanely funny. This song got to be their first single, and over here is the official video. Jedward is rocking it out. They got their own video out even before there was any news of the winner's, Joe McElderry, album production. And it's doing well commercially speaking.

Does this mean you do not have to win the show to become a successful recording artist?

Grammys @ 2010 - We're All Fans

I just finished watching the 2010 Grammy Awards and I can't believe it the amount of awards Taylor Swift snatched from Lady GaGa. This was so freak'in unbelievable. For me, Grammys just lost all credibility. When they can award someone who can't carry a tune and sing on-key if her life depended for a Vocal Performance, then Grammy is nothing to boast about.

Nevertheless the night wasn't a complete loss. There were six amazing performances and I'm putting them all up here for you people to enjoy. These are my favorites and you're more than welcome to link up to yours. I'm gonna kick of with the Lady GaGa's monster routine. Though this get-up didn't amaze me, her performance did leave me speechless. Starting her routine with the dance phenomenon Pokerface. She was later joined by Sir Elton John on Speechless. I've always loved Sir Elton John's collabs. Remember at Grammys a few years back when he performed with Eminem. Things like this keep him current, he mixed it with 'Your Song'. This was one freak'in ridiculous performance!

Later on we had the original diva Beyonce aka Sasha Fierce strut herself. She performed If I Were a Boy and followed it up with Alanis Morisette's 'You Oughta Know'. I would have personally loved had she sung Single Ladies because not only that song was nominated for numerous categories but that is one song which will continue to be popular in many generations to come. So put your hands up for Beyonce!

My favorite rock-band of all time, Green Day also took the stage. Now what they did was something very new to me. I had no idea there was a Green Day musical coming up. I haven't really seen any Broadway stage up close but it's been on my To-Do list since the last few years. So the word musical got my ears up. They performed 21 Guns alongside the cast of American Idiot. The girls got pretty darn good vocal command, though she looks kind of scared.

P!NK also performed on the Grammys. Though the acrobatic routine wasn't new, she performed a similar on the VMAs singing Sober. This time around with Glitter In The Air, P!NK took to the air. I loved when she did an inverted pirouette at the end. I wish she had chosen a different song, but it was a good performance over all.

Jennifer Nettles who has me so freak'in impressed with her Country performance joined Bon Jovi for their very first Grammy performance. She performed their Country hit, Who Says You Can't Go Home, and did amazing. I loved how well she meshed with the guys. It seemed as if she's been singing with them for ages. Not peppered with glitz and glamor, just riffs and vocals. Unadulterated goodness!

Last but not the least the Recording Academy paid a tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Accompanied by Celine Dion, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Smokey Robinson, this was a Grammy moment. I wouldn't be surprised if there were tears in the eyes of people as the video played. The performance was flawless and immaculate. They all sung beautifully. This IS the real thing, people!

Grammys were no doubt good this year. Beyonce took home 6 awards, making a record for the most wins by a female at a single Grammys night. Taylor Swift took home 4, while GaGa earned 2. Black Eyed Peas won 3. Other winners included Eminem, Rihanna, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, A. R. Rehman, Kanye West and Maxwell. Congratulations to all the winners!!

It's Grammy's night, folks! I'm so freak'in excited it's beyond amazing! It sucks that I have a test tomorrow so I won't be able to catch the LIVE! show itself. There are loads of spectacular names lined up and ready to blow us away. Lady GaGa is opening the night!

All I can say is OM*G!

Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, P!NK, Bon Jovi, Green Day, Mary J. Blige, Lady Antebellum and Sugarland will also be taking the stage at various spots during the show. Oh yeah, Taylor Swift is also performing. And I'm counting on her to be off-key!

Recording Academy will be honoring the late king of pop, Michael Jackson, with the Earth Song. It was specifically designed for his This Is It Tour. It's a never been seen before footage. Celine Dion, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Usher and Smokey Robinson will be performing alongside. This is going to be huge!

Gotta Love NPH! Gotta Laugh at Joe!

Neil Patrick Harris abbreviated as NPH was one of the two guest judges on the Dallas, TX Audition Round. And I have to say, he was pure awesomeness!

I was really skeptical about him as I really have not heard him sing, but then I am aware that he does happen to have some Broadway background. Coming back to the audition, he was amazing!

NPH was like a leaner, more critical version of Simon Cowell. Couple that with witty remarks and take away the catty homophobic comment slips, that is Neil Patrick Harris. But yeah, Katy Perry still takes the first place.

Just as much useful NPH proved to be, Joe Jonas was just as ridiculous. Is there anything this kid can do and not make himself look stupid?! Joe proved himself as a complete douchebag when he danced to Beyonce's Single Ladies trying to emulate Justin Timberlake. While JT actually made it look funny, Joe managed to make it look simply horrible.

He gave a nod to everyone. Was he comparing their singing to his own?! C'mon Joe! Even you're not that bad. The only reason I could think that the producers wanted Joe was to boost the population of tweens watching the show.

Guess what producers?! Tweens already follow your show religiously!

My choice of a guest judge would have been, the one and only, Ms. Clarkson. Why am I saying so?!

Well firstly, she's from Texas. She auditioned for the show during it's first season from Dallas, TX. She's sold more records than Joe and has more vocal prowess than Joe will when he will be 30.

Plus she's actually stood there in front of the judges, so she can actually feel what the contestants are going through. This would also been an amazing opportunity to promote their original star. Clarkson is THE reason that American Idol returned two years later and has continued ever since. Now that's something to consider.

I Could Kiss Katy Perry!!

So I'm pretty sure that you all must be aware that Paula has left the judging panel on American Idol. She had some problems with the renewal of her contract and quit the job (Rumor has it that she was fired), and Ellen DeGeneres has taken her place as the new American Idol judge. However this decision was made after the Judges Audition Round, therefore the producer put down various personalities from the entertainment industry to fill in for now.

We've had Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Shania Twain and Kristin Chenoweth. Victoria was pathetic, Mary couldn't stop laughing or crying at various points of the program. Shania was fun and Kristin was cool. The episode today featured two pop princesses, Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry.

There is nothing worth mentioning about Lavigne, except for her deviled hoodie, which I could really go for except in red. However Perry bought some real thing to the table.

Perry completely rocked it. She was brutally honest and she gave those creepy auditions a reality check, which they desperately needed.

But the real reason, Perry caught my heart so bad was that she gave that annoying Kara a run for her money. Kara literally over-talks everybody on the panel and her 'honey' and 'sweetie' are extremely annoying. No matter how much she tried winning Perry over, Perry remained true to her opinion.

Kick Kara and put Perry!! Seriously producers, not only you'll have a brilliant judge but also your rating will sky-rocket! And she's a brilliant song-writer, so she even covers Kara's job!

And also, she actually made it to becoming a recording artist unlike her!

Plus she looked more smoking hot than Kara will do any day. If you haven't checked out the today's episode, you so need to! Perry will blow you away!

Turn It Up; Pixie Lott

One of the artists that made their debut in 2009 and quickly caught my attention is the English singer/song writer Victoria Louise Lott, better known as, Pixie Lott. The album is utterly awesome and possibly one of the best debuts of 2009. She is a pretty darn good vocalist no doubt, but even better than that, she is an amazing song writer. There is a wittiness in her lyrics that I've witnessed before in Katy Perry's debut album, One of the Boys.

While Perry is more inclined towards rock and pop, Pixie here goes along the R&B and soul route. I feel that she has made some really sensible decision at her debut disc and it's no surprise that two of her three singles have reached #1 in UK.

The album has mostly easy going pop tracks, with the occasional presence of ballads. There are two dance numbers, I'm glad Lott didn't let her label push her into that direction. With so many acts bursting into the market and every other being a dance act, is making lots of acts sound cliche. Really happy Lott stuck to what she knew best.

'Boys & Girls', 'Turn It Up' and 'Here We Go Again' are the three dance numbers. 'Boys & Girls' has become the second single from Lott and has achieved great success. It's also one of the my favorite tracks. Plus the video is really awesome. Nothing really high tech about it, but it just seems like such a cool party song being played in a really cool party. It's awesome!

'Here We Go Again' is produced by Red One, famous for producing hits like 'Pokerface' and 'Just Dance' for Lady GaGa. This track is another dance floor anthem and a darn good one.

'Mama Do (Uh Oh, Uh Oh)' is a perky fun number where Lott describes her distress if her parents get to know of her lunatics. It happens to be her debut single and is another really awesome track off the record. It is one of the only two tracks which does not have Pixie on writing credits, but she has made it her own with her one of a kind vocals.

'Band Aid' is a fun pop number, kind of seems like a Natasha Beddingfield song if you ask me. But there is a young generation vibe in Pixie's voice and it's totally playful. There is abit too much noise from the back ground singers, but it's a good track. This playful and originality is also noticed in the track 'Jack', where she turns the everybody knows nursery rhyme into a quirky song.

'Cry Me Out' and 'Gravity' are two of the better ballads off the record. 'Cry Me Out' has been released as the third single, while 'Gravity' is slated to be the next. I'm glad 'Gravity' is selected as a single, it's easily the most noticeable track off the record. I absolutely love the piano play in this track, very Alicia Keys. 'My Love' is another shining track. Somewhat of a more pop ballad than I would have expected. But it is good no doubt.

'Nothing Compares' is a heart wrenching ballad, however this is one track which I have yet to grow a liking too. My best friend thinks this is one of the best tracks from the record, but I don't. Give it a listen, maybe you will like it.

'The Way the World Works' and 'Hold Me In Your Arms' are the last two tracks. While the former is one of my favorite, the latter doesn't do much for me. 'Hold Me In Your Arms' is also the other track which doesn't have Lott on writing credits. It's a strange world! One track she's not there and I love it. Another track she's not there and I don't like it at all.

Pixie will be introducing herself to the US market sometime this year. When I am not sure, but I'm sure she will be doing great. 'Boys & Girls' has already charted in US and has received ravings, so I'm guessing she'll do pretty well.

Black Eyed Peas have been a long time favorite of mine. Though their lyrics are more than often absolutely ridiculous and there is nothing about them that is worth burning your gray matter over. But enjoyable they are. The reason I'm making this one particular post about them is for one particular member of the group. I'm talking about the one and only fierce Latina Stacy Ann Ferguson aka Fergie.

Black Eyed Peas achieved numerous commercial and critical success ever since Fergie joined their line up. She's quite possibly one of the most talented and diverse female vocalist of the present age. And besides having vocals that could sing the telephone directory, she has looks that could raise the body temperature of the Abominable Snowman. And that's why her debut record 'The Dutchess' released in 2007, alone sold more copies that will.i.am three solo effort records combined.

The previous single from BEPs third studio effort, The E.N.D., was one of the best songs of 2009 and most definitely had the most amazing video of 2009. While Bad Romance did make me gravitate towards it, but that was just for a few moments. 'Meet Me Halfway' has me coming back for more. And that's all because how freak'in awesome Fergie is looking in the vid.

Everything looks so surreal. Speaking of looks, Fergie under-went a makeover just last year. And quite definitely she improved multiple folds. She's a complete bomb!!

Echo; Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis is no doubt the most well known and publicized winner of the British X Factor. Being crowned in 2006 and releasing her debut album, Spirit next year. She practically rocketed into fame, largely due to the world wide chart topper Bleeding Love.

With all that to her name, a sophomore album was a for sure sign. And that's what the world got on November 17th, '09. Under the name Echo, Lewis once again proved why she deserved winning X Factor. One of the great moves she made this time round was to keep the album more her age. Last time there were a number of tracks which Whitney Houston could have sung during her prime years. But what Lewis served this time round are signature hers and no one else can do them like her.

With writing credits to her name this time, it was a clear sign that this album would be great. Other people collaborating their writing skills are Justin Timberlake, Ryan Tedder, Max Martin, Jess Cates and Kevin Rudolf. The production line up were pretty impressive as well. I really have high hopes that this album will grab a few accolades for the nomination it gets in next year's Grammys.

Featuring guest vocals on one track and more dance numbers, Lewis has clearly distinguished herself in a completely different league from every other contestant that has ever appeared on X Factor. She is really someone with unimaginable talent and amazing potential.

This is a really strong album over all and there is only one track I can bad mouth about. 'Can't Breath' is the only weak point on the record. Ballads that constantly deal with a low falsetto are not for her. They make her sound boring and it seems that she's trying to hard most of the times. She should be more herself like in the songs 'Brave', 'Happy' and 'Broken'. 'Brave' is a particular stand out. I am completely in love with this song and I'm really hoping that it's chosen sometime in the future as a single.

Europop is an ever going genre and with so many British artists adopting a more bold approach to dance numbers. Tracks like 'Outta Here', 'Love Letter', 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out', 'Naked' and 'You Don't Care' show Leona's untapped potential to expand and grow into this market. 'I Got You' which is chosen as the second single also seems to have a touch of it, but barely. And yes, it is another song that is a clear stand-out.

One bonus track that I would particularly like to mention is 'Stone Hearts & Hand Grenades'. The only word I can use to describe it is profound. This is definitely one of the most personal tracks off the record. Co-penned by Lewis, there is a clear indication that this came from somewhere deep within. I disappointed that this track didn't make the cut. This track has great potential as a single and definitely could have done a much better than the original first single 'Happy'. But hey, who's going to argue with the big shot producers.

Lewis also had for the first time having a guest appearance on her record. 'Lost and Found' features the American Pop Rock culture iconic group, One Republic. This track is rumored to be selected as a single in near future. If so, this track can expose Lewis even more into the US and US influenced markets. And I'm pretty sure this is going to come true sooner or later, Simon Cowell, Lewis's manager is trying hard to break his proteges into the US main stream. And of all, Leona Lewis and SuBo are the only ones that stand a chance.

Earlier in an interview Lewis mentioned that she was planning to work with Chris Martin of Coldplay to help her crack Japan and Timbaland to crack the urban/hip-hop market. I was really interested to see these collabs work out, Martin is a genius and he could really help Lewis gain new heights. Timbaland while maybe a hip hop king, I don't see him churning out stuff that Lewis could sell. But no doubt I would give that a listen. Lewis indicated such might happen on her third album, whenever that comes along.

Do give this record a listen folks. It's one of the best ones that have come last year!

Rated R; Rihanna

If there is one album that can be easily mistaken for a dud, it has to be Rated R. Like many I gave this album one listen and declared Rihanna's career over. However the few tracks that got me grooving made me listen to the album again. It was then that I realized that this album is actually a grower.

Rated R is one of the most edgiest records I've ever heard. Rihanna has definitely made an exit from her previous musical style when she was all about making club bangers and dance floor anthems. This time around she has kept the album much more intimate and I think that's why many fail to feel the album at the first listen.

While the song are indeed much different from what Rihanna has done before, are they related in anyway to the bashing incidence at the 2009 Grammys?! Can't say. Related or not, the songs are clearly awesome and something completely new. I'm glad she changed her style. With GaGa being the new dance queen, Rihanna needed to advance to something bigger and better. Lo behold, we have Rated R.

I became a fan of Rihanna because of her dance anthems and I was never a fan of her ballads. The only slow tempo song I ever liked from her was 'Unfaithful' from her second album A Girl Like Me. However this time round, its the ballads that I'm really crazy about. 'Stupid in Love', 'Russian Roulette', 'Firebomb', 'Te Amo' and 'The Last Song' are some of my favorite tracks of the record. 'Firebomb' and 'The Last Song' are especially really good tracks. I instantly took a liking to them and played them non-stop for a couple of days on my iTunes.

'Cold Case Love' is another ballad, however it didn't quite appear to me as a song that would suit Rihanna. There is something about that song that puts me in a slumber. It's a sleeper. Nothing memorable about it! And it is also, in my opinion, one of the weak spots off the record. Rihanna can most definitely do alot better than this.

This time round, there hasn't been alot of hip hop on the record. Frankly speaking, this was a very smart move on Rihanna's part. 'Wait Your Turn', 'Rockstar 101' and 'G4L' are all hip hop songs and they get old fast. 'Rockstar' is one of the most annoying songs I've ever heard and there is absolutely nothing about it that appeals to me. Given the fact that she tells the listener to frisk her under-garments is another complete turn-off. 'G4L' which translates to 'Gangster for Life' is a complete mafia song, where Rihanna tells how she can mess up anyone who tries to mess with her and how she's got a whole gang of mobsters backing her. I know she's going for a more dark and fierce image this time, but why the voilence?!

'Hard' and 'Rude Boy' are two extremely strong acts. The chorus will drive you crazy with the repetitive lines but before they can manage to do that, they will have you addicted to them. It's no surprise, they were chosen as the second and third single off the album. 'Rude Boy' is most definitely my favorite track of the record. Here we see the sassy, sultry, out-for-the-kill Rihanna once again. These types of track in my opinion have always been Rihanna's forte. She simply can't go wrong with them.

'Hole in My Head' is another track along these lines. And further more, it is a JT collab. While JT may not be producing any new music, but his collaborations are always piping hot. 'Love Sex Magic' by Ciara and '4 Minutes' by Madonna are still going strong on my personal charts. Justin definitely brings out the sassyness of Rihanna in one of the most amazing collective effort tracks of 2009. Too bad it is a bonus track, it can easily outshine 'Rockstar 101' and 'Cold Case Love'.

'Photographs' is another track. It's likeable enough but there is nothing amazing about it. You listen a few times and then your done with it. But it maybe different if you are a huge fan of Will.i.am. For me, it gets a slightly above average rating.

'Rated R' is definitely Rihanna's strongest effort to date. Surprisingly there is news circulating that she will be putting out another album this summer. I hope it's true. But I want her to more mature and not to regress back to the Good Girl Gone Bad era. Till next time, peeps!

The Fame Monster; Lady GaGa

When you talk about music in 2009, you just can not leave out GaGa fever that has just about everyone in it's spell. With the release of the highly successful debut album, Fame it was a huge surprise to everyone when GaGa announced she will be releasing a new album consisting of eight tracks.

Initially it was planned to be released as the re-release version of The Fame, but GaGa thought it re-releases are unfair and just a mean of record companies to keep their artist's albums floating in the market. She had to convince her record to let her release a completely new album and lo behold, we had The Fame Monster.

Though eight tracks doesn't mean a new album to me but when you have eight amazing songs then I'm sorry, that is an album. Keeping the production rights to Red One, with whose help she created her first of many Number Ones to come, and Rodney Jerkins, GaGa took the world of music by storm once again on November 23rd with the release of Fame Monster.

Given the huge GaGa fan I am, I'm going to be taking you throw each track personally. The album starts off with 'Bad Romance'. No doubt this is one of the craziest songs of 2009. This song totally sets the mood for the album which is clearly indicating the new era of GaGa. This time going with even more techo beats and a crazy catchy hook, GaGa created one heck of a memorable song. I got mad love for Bad Romance!

'Alejandro' is the second track of the record. The pre-chorus is amazing and once again, instantly settles down into your brain and gets you addicted. This song is another piece of work that will not stop to amaze you. And the rhyming with the names?!

What's up with that?!

GaGa can literally write a book on songwriting. With two tracks through, the GaGa Express shows no signs of stopping. The third track is a real monster. Titled 'Monster' GaGa goes to a darker side of obsession and want. Abit more danceable as compared to the last two, I was completely blown away by this one. Rumored to be the third single, I'm hoping it is. This track is so radio ready, it's unbelievable.

With songs like 'Poker Face', 'Just Dance', 'Love Game' and 'Bad Romance' under her belt, one doesn't exactly count GaGa as someone who would do a ballad. But one this eight track record, she managed to squeeze in one. And man, what a track it is!

'Speechless' is a really shining star. I've often read here and there that GaGa is a performer and not a singer. Well this song will no doubt change their mind. A major piano ballad this song will put you in a trance. GaGa performed this LIVE! on the AMAs and literally left everyone speechless. It was the most amazing performance of the night with the fiery piano and the shattering bottles.

Lyrically speaking, all the song after 'Bad Romance' didn't match up to it. But the fifth track, 'Dance in the Dark' does! With the underlying meaning of bodily insecurities and unwillingness, GaGa marks another hit. And yes, you can dance to this one! Putting it up as a tribute to the famous lives who met tragic ends, GaGa leaves us with another winning track.

Another very radio ready track is 'Telephone'. And this time, GaGa comes along with the R&B Diva, Beyonce Knowles. This song is a pop wonder! Extremely catchy! Highly danceable! Crazy energetic! This song will have your feet stomping in no time. The rapid-fire delivery is simply too good to miss. Like I said, a pop wonder!

'So Happy I Could Die' is possibly the one weak track off the record. I, for one, didn't like it at all. It just seems so un-GaGaish. Lyrically speaking, it's nice and all. But there appears to be something missing. Can't exactly place what is that one thing though!

Last but not the least, we have 'Teeth'. I love the pounding of drums. Very tribal! With a slight S&M flair to the lyrics, the track is insanely catchy. Having a rare mix of gospel and pop, this track is another masterpiece.

Though one track did disappoint me, but the seven others left me thoroughly satisfied. I'm glad GaGa took charge of the record and put out a completely new record. Keeping the material very commercial and at the same time, really good, GaGa has definitely made an impact as an artist. Her rise is steady and keeps on gaining new heights.

With the confirmed news another album out at the end of 2010, this girl is definitely going to keep wowing us for a very long time.

Just Like You; Allison Iraheta

While Kris Allen may have taken the title and Adam Lambert may have generated the biggest hype, it can't be any clearer that the real star of the previous season was the fiery 16 year old red-head, Allison Iraheta. Driving the nation crazy with her penchant for rock n' roll and blues, this girl was a dark-horse in the race. Of all the contestant this year, Iraheta's debut album was the one I was really waiting for.

Signing to the label 19/Jive who have made it their motto to churn out one pop act after another, proceeded to take this prodigy the same root. However I'm glad they didn't make her into another Miley clone, because this girl here can out-sing the Disney Princesses with her hands tied behind her back.

Taking into consideration extremely creative names like Max Martin, Howard Benson, Toby Gad, P!NK, Chris Daughtry, Kevin Rudolp and Kara DioGuardi, this record was simply destined to be rock solid. Keeping her bluesy vocals intact, Iraheta treads into the Pop Rock and Punk fields. With many radio-ready tracks, Iraheta has done an amazing job with her debut. I couldn't be any less happy for her.

With a particular yen for guitar riffing, this album is simply mind-blowing. It seems I've said this a million times but Allison's vocals are nothing short of amazing. Having the seasoned perfection and experience of the rock n' roll legends like Janice Joplin and Pat Benatar.

With several fast-paced and hard-melodies, the rock chick in Iraheta ascends to the level of P!NK. 'Friday I'll Be Over You', 'Robot Love', 'Holiday', 'Beat Me Up' and 'Don't Wanna Be Wrong' are clearly fan favorites. These tracks simply soar and keeping on going higher and higher. Particular stand-outs are 'Robot Love' and 'Holiday'. Besides being the bluesy gal she is, these songs prove another point on her part. This girl can be just as modern and compete with the current female artists.

'Just Like You', 'Scars', 'Pieces', and 'Trouble Is' are my favorite tracks of the record. These encase everything I have loved about her. Her growling vocals! Her soulful renditions! Her vocal maturity! These songs show a great range of diversity Iraheta has, which is something I feel is lacking in both Allen and Lambert's debut record.

'D is for Dangerous', 'No One Else', 'Still Breathing' and 'You Don't Know Me' are amalgamated tracks. Taking the bluesy Iraheta and blending them to the current pop trends. The first of the three is a particular stand-out and simply can not be missed. One of the my early favorites!

'Don't Waste the Pretty' is far too pop and is probably the only track I would have liked not to be present given a first choice. Though Iraheta once again amazes me. Quoting a possibly drunk Paula Abdul, "You hear one note and it's undeniably Allison".

To those who didn't vote for Allison on the Top 4 Night, this record will indeed make them feel sorry they voted for the wrong person. My personal favorite record of 2009. Please do check it out!

Flops & Tops - Tops

So I have already covered the Flops of the recently past year. And as claimed, this post will be to the tops of 2009. There have been some really good movies and then there have been some great ones as well. Here I am going to be putting up the ones which I loved.

Paul Blart Mall Cop kick-started the list of the awesome movies. Starring the undoubted King of Comedy, Kevin James and the adorable Jayma Mays( Think Glee), the movie will have you rolling in laughter within a few scenes. Kevin James has done a brilliant job. If you happen to be looking for quality family entertainment, then look no further. Paul Blart Mall Cop should be your first choice.

Every year around Valentine's Day, Hollywood churns out a movie dedicated to the glorious and equally disastrous day. This year we had He's Just Not That Into You. Inspired by a single line from the multi-award winning HBO series Sex and the City, the movie became a box office blockbuster. Despite the fact that it has a huge cast of extremely notable personalities, the movie is well distributed amongst them. Now I know it's a complete chick flick, but when you have Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore and Scarlett Johansson in the same movie. It's an utter sin to miss it out.

Ever seen one of those movies where everything just keeps getting from bad to worse coupled with a tumult of hilarious incidents?! If not then you need to check out Confessions of a Shopaholic! This is one of those rare times when a movie adaptation of a book has actually fared well. I saw this movie on the way to States and through the 9 hour long flight, I actually watched it twice. It has many of my favorite things thrown together, so no doubt it was a huge hut for me. It's pretty darn amazing. And don't we all have a little shopaholic in us?

While there is absolute no doubt that the Dark Knight would be best movie ever to be inspired from a comic, one movie came very close to it this year. I'm talking about Watchmen, guys! Zack Snyder, who is extremely well-known for 300 took charge of this project and did it marvelously. There is really no contest about that. Though there are many directors with far more experience that Zack, this movie needed abit more younger appeal with slight taint of darkness. Though I had never heard of Watchmen prior to this, but after the movie I'm knee deep into their comic book series

One movie that I expected would bomb really badly but turned out quite well was Star Trek. Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, John Cho and Zoe Saldana I was a complete idiot to think this movie would flop. The movie has one of the most gripping story lines with excellent visual and cinematic effects. Zachary Quinto, popularly known for playing the cold-blooded power-mad killer in Heroes Sylar, did his role incredible justice. Though he looked completely crazy, he made it impossible to not take his character seriously.

Dan Brown is an amazing author and his books are just beyond words. The only author who for me has out-stripped J.K Rowling. Brimming with actual facts and cult fascination, they are simply too good to be true. Previously Da Vinci Code was made into a movie and it really didn't do well. I felt the movie had left several important facts out of the book and just didn't feel complete. Now Angels & Demons though once again couldn't explain each and every detail but this time round they managed to keep it more confined and more planned. Tom Hanks, the geeky equivalent of James Bond minus the high tech gadgetry reprises the role of Professor Robert Langdon and does a remarkable job. Another top of the year, people!

Another stellar flick this year was Night At The Museum; Battle of the Smithsonian. When you have Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Owen Wilson, Robin Williams and Hank Azaria on the same screen, you really can not afford to look for anything else in the theater. This movie no doubt has to the best movie of this year. This is another gem of a movie if you want one that your little ones can watch along with you. It was a huge hit at the box office. With that cast, I think it pretty much was destined to be one.

Is it just me or has anybody also felt the lack of guy flicks?! It's so hard to find a movie that you can just watch with your friends that just defines being a guy from the start to finish. That trend changed with Hangover. This movie is a complete guy flick. But girls are equally invited and welcomed. A bachelor party gone wrong not only results in a huge headache, a messed up hotel suite but also the groom turns out to be missing. The cast has done the most amazing job. The chemistry gets a 10 out of 10 from me. If you haven't seen it yet, you're missing out on an amazing movie.

I'm a huge fan of Katherine Heigl. Besides the fact that she's a complete blond bombshell and is insanely amazing at acting. Her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens in Grey's Anatomy is probably one of the most engaging characters present on TV right now. She was set to star opposite Gerard Butler, famous for P.S. I Love You, in the romantic comedy The Ugly Truth. The movie's plot is extremely fresh and extremely humorous at many spots. This is one great summer flick. At first I was afraid that Heigl would out-shine Butler, but Butler does an amazing job at portraying his cocky, arrogant, womanizer.

While a good majority of 2009 was littered with funny flicks, one of the most thought provoking flicks came out much later in the summer, My Sister's Keeper is a stellar. Starring Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, Abigail Breslin and Thomas Dekker, this movie will no doubt grab a few accolades in the up-coming awards. Cameron Diaz who in no way I would ever think of playing the role of a mother carried her role extremely proficiently.

A movie that I still have not yet fully understood inspite of repeated watching is District 9. It's kind of like the Matrix of 2009. I know there are aliens but exactly how the story wraps around the main theme leaves me boggled. But yeah, it is a good movie no doubt. I saw it pretty late because of exams but I liked it alot. I watched it again a few days back hoping to finally decipher the entire tale but was futile. I'll be sitting down for it again soon. Hopefully this time getting it right!

Quentin Tarantino out did himself again with the World War II drama, Inglorious Basterds. A cast involving the likes of Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Mike Myers and Diane Kruger the film really had no way to go but to the top. Brad Pitt did an amazing job, especially on the accent. There is really alot this man has up his sleeve. Inglorious Basterds is definitely one for the keeps.

Tom Hanks earlier this year reprized his role as Professor Robert Langdon, but his really star came from producing the incredibly creative Where The Wild Things Are. The movie depicts the journey of a young boy with a rather wild personality, Max, as he journeys to an unknown place and befriends a group of creatures only found in the wildest imaginations. It's another book turned into a movie and is surprisingly really good. The animation definitely gets a thumbs up from me. And on another plus point, this is another movie our kids can watch.

2012 was no doubt the most anticipated movie of 2009. Being based on the Mayan prophecy of the world coming to an end in 2012, the movie displays the fight for survival of humanity as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis strike various places all over the world. The movie is thoroughly engaging and will practically have you hanging on to your seat. It also features the song 'Time For Miracles' by Adam Lambert, but the real thing which makes the movie so amazing is all the special effect.

While the list has gotten pretty long and has some really amazing names to it. No doubt the best was really saved for the last. I'm talking about the James Cameron wonder, Avatar. Having previously gained fame for Titanic, Avatar just propelled Cameron to a completely new level of awesomeness. The movie is cleverly drafted and well executed. The animation is freakishly real and will definitely take your breath away. Those blue skinned creatures, Na'vi are perfected to the last detail. The movie is definitely going to be giving all the previously stated movies a run for their money.

One movie which I thought could be another top for this year has not been released here yet so I have no idea about it but I'll be checking it out soon and you'll find it here. Till then take care and a Happy New Year everyone!

Flops & Tops - Flops

The first half of '09 was littered with bad movies. I was generally disappointed with a good majority but that was maybe because I had high expectations for alot of them.

To kick off the list of the bad movies, we have Bride Wars., starring the adorable Anne Hathaway and fiery Kate Hudson. Personally I though the movie would be pretty darn good given the two female leads are reigning starlets. But it just kept going on from bad to worst. Fortunately the movie had a much better ending and sort of made it worth sitting through the whole thing.
Slasher flicks have never been a personal favorite of mine. I just can't stand the gross spurting of blood and body parts being chopped. It is a huge injustice to anatomy. Unfortunately we were presented with a slasher right at the beginning of the year, My Bloody Valentine.

Jensen Ackles, popularly known for playing Dean Winchester in the CW TV Series, Supernatural, took the lead for the movie. There was a good twist in the end and as usual the psycho-killer survived, which means a sequel is due. Given how the first one was, I don't have high expectations for it.

As far as I can re-call ever since Harry Potter burst into the movie scene, it's been a general trend to turn every novel series that went successful with the audience into a movie. This year we started that trend with Inkheart. The lead provided by the hero of Mummy, Brendan Fraser. It also features Paul Bettany, Jim Broadbent. I read the novel after watching the movie. Now I don't normally do this but the movie had left several blanks in my head. Not wanting to watch the movie again, I picked up the book which led further negativity towards the movie in my eyes.

Another horror psycho-killer that came abit later was The Uninvited. The movie's story-line was sort of predictable to tell the truth. But I did like how they had captured it. I didn't see any recognizable faces in the cast but they all seemed to have done it to the best they could. On an average, I would rate it 5.

The Sci-Fi thriller, Push burst into the scene. This was a movie that I was honestly looking forward to. With actors like Dakota Fanning and Chris Evans in the cast, I expected this movie to go high. The plot though very interesting seemed as if was thought up of quickly and once again fell short at alot of places. In my opinion, the story-line would have adopted better had it been used on the TV rather than a reel. The first half of the movie is really nothing. It's the last 30 minutes that actually make the viewer cling to their seat. 7 out of 10, but I'm being generous.

Evans, having previously played the Human Torch on the two Fantastic Four movies, I thought he would be extremely well suited for the role. But there was something missing. I guess a brooding character doesn't settle with his boyish appearance. Fannings as always did an amazing job with her character and was most definitely the a very interesting character. She's a real prodigy no doubt.

Jason Chronicles have been done to death. This time served up as Friday the 13th. Having been around for as long as I can remember and there is nothing more that can be done about him. The movies always follow the same lines. He witnesses some brutal incidence, goes wild with rage killing everything that moves on two legs. Everyone in the movie dies, except for the lead male and female. One of the two surviving character manage to kill Jason, but only to have him come again.

Ironically while Jensen appeared as the villian in the earlier slasher thriller released this year, Jared Padalecki, the other half of the TV Series Supernatural, plays the leading man this time. Weird, no?!

Question; Why are movies plotted around college scenes are so popular? Answer; High School Cliches, weird teachers, hot cheerleaders and lots of pent-up unmentionable highly objectionable energy. This year we had Fired Up. Starring Nicholas D'Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen. The humor is good and timing is right, however the plot is weak. You see it once and laugh it off, but you don't go for seconds.

Madea Goes to Jail was just destined for failure and doom. There have been numerous movies that seem to believe that they would be the next Dr. Do-Little and employ a certain actor donning multiple characters. Much like Fired Up, you don't go back for seconds. Honestly speaking, I couldn't sit through half of it.

The Fast & Furious series have been around for like the last eight years. This year we witnessed the fourth installment. The previous installment released in 2006, Fast & Furious; Tokyo Drift bombed badly. This time around they decided to play up to their best strength and bought back Vin Diesel along with Paul Walker. The movie is good, however there are a three main story-lines mixed, the third lead being played by Jordana Brewster. The plot lines tend to get too mixed up at times, the movie could have been a little more planned. There are still a dozen of car chases in wide open spaces. Enjoy if your a fan!

Next up is Hannah Montana; the Movie. OMG! Seriously?! :p I won't lie. As much as I'm mega-embarrassed to say this but I'm a huge fan of the Hannah Montana TV Series. So when I got the news of a movie in process and it being formulated by Disney I knew we were in for uber-cheesiness. Still my praise for Miley's acting (Note; I said acting and not singing, I have never been a fan of her singing and if I continue to be sane, I won't ever be one) I went ahead with the movie. The plot has been done to death. Once a farm girl made her way to fame, fortune and success. Has now forgotten the simpler life and gotten addicted to the fast life. On a weekend retreat, finds where her heart truly lies and what her priorities should be. And then using her awesome fame 'powers' she saves her farmland. Cool, na? No!

When Zac Efron said he's going to taking more mature roles after the High School Musical Series, where do we find him? In another movie, 17 Again, is based around the high school runs of an every-day teenagers. Being the very coveted golden boy during his high school days has his life turned upside down in a moment of a hasty decision. At the present scene, Matthew Perry (Didn't I mention him earlier? ) now leads a pathetic life where his whole family hates him. By magic, he manages to become seventeen again (Hence the title, Genius!) but this time round, it's still 2009. So he attends the same school as his children and does what is best for them. The idea though enriching could have been abit more mature. Four out of ten!

Beyonce once again makes her way to Big Screen with a crime thriller, this time round in the movie Obsessed. Appearing along side her are Ali Lanter and Idris Elba. Once again the movie is flat. Though Beyonce really doesn't do a thing for me this time round, Ali is simply amazing. Having played the multi-personality assassin and conspirator in Heroes, scheming seems to come natural to her. The only word I can use for her is exquisite and the only good thing in the whole movie.

One of the biggest disappointment of this year was the flick, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Although it has two of my favorite actors of all time, the style icon Matthew McConaughey and the ultra-sexy Jennifer Garner. McConaughey plays the ultimate womanizer who doesn't notice the girl who's heart he has repeatedly broken over the years when he couldn't say the words Garner wants to hear. Though littered with cliche hilarious moments, the movie never really gain any steam. Complete failure!

When the X-Men movie was announced, one of the roles everyone was looking forward to see who would be cast in was the rabid no nonsense Wolverine. Hugh Jackman had some serious boots to fill and he did a remarkable job. Though the second and third part didn't reach the same success as the first one, Jackman was constantly praised for his uncanny acting. The only logical step after the third movie where four major characters witnessed their demise. It was only logical to pick up the most popular character off the line-up and put it under the solo act. And that was where the era of Wolverine began. Unfortunately Wolverine completely fell flat for me. I had huge expectations and I didn't get much of what I wanted. The biggest mistake that was made in my opinion was the casting of Gambit. I would have been much more satisfied had they picked up someone like James Franco or Johnny Depp for that part.

If you happen to be looking for a campy, lame, down right atrocious horror movie then we had a steller one this year. Drag Me To Hell has got to be the biggest summer flop ever. I can't say much on it because there really isn't much to say. It's pure unadulterated mush!

Another summer flop was the highly anticipated sequel to the 2007 mega-hit Transformer 2; Revenge of the Fallen. Now this movie had me so pumped up through out the entire summer. I happened to be in States when it was released and I was there to catch it on the second day of it's release. For a movie that I put so much effort in seeing, it didn't amaze me much. It seemed as if they had taken all the things that we loved in Transformers Part One and amplified it in Part Two. Expect more geekiness from Shia LeBouf, more hotness from Megan Fox and alot more fighting from the machines. If your a fan by all means, you have my blessings!

As mentioned earlier, not all great books can be made into great movies. No exception to this rule was the summer slated release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Though the cast has obviously grown older and developed their acting skills really well. The older cast out-shine them. Though Emma Watson portrayal of Hermione Granger is once again the highlight of the movie, majority of it didn't work for me. One a better note, this would be final time I would be witnessing the horrible rendition of Sir Michael Gambon as Dumbledore.

Another summer release that bombed was the Hayden Panettiere starring comdey flick I Love You, Beth Cooper. It was a complete snore fest honestly speaking. At most of the part, the cast seemed confused and nervous. There was also a certain level of lack in the finesse of the final product. Hayden who has always annoyed me ever since her appearance as the ever-healing cheer leader in the TV Series Heroes once again manages to pull it off really well. Wouldn't advise it to my worst enemy!

When Transformers 2 fell down I had not entirely lost my hope on movie based upon comics. But after I saw G.I. Joe; The Rise Of Cobra I had no option but to surrender. While the movie gets 10 out of 10 from me on the cinematic and special effect category, it fails on the story-line department. I have been a huge fan of G.I. Joe ever since my cousin introduced them to me sometime back in 1996. So when I got news about the movie I was pretty excited. The line-up of cast was amazing but unfortunately the lacked chemistry. Besides the earlier stated, Sienna Miller in a leather suit! Forget the popcorn I'll feast on her!

Besides Scream and the Jason Chronicles, another movie series that has been done to death is Final Destination. Not only the plot seems mega-predictable after all this time, it seems that the makers don't realize it and believe that the audience will buy anything they put on the big screen. There is really nothing I can say except tell you not to watch it. You'll only be wasting precious time!

The world can never have enough of psycho/slasher thrillers! Or so the big wheels behind the movie industry tend to believe. This time basing the plot around a sorority, the movie is titled Sorority Row, which only lead to one thing. Loads and loads of screaming, eventually murdered girls! The movie is an absolute mess and honestly, just by the reading the name, I knew what I was in store for. But being the douche bag, I tend to be at times. I went along to see it. The acting is convincing enough and most of them look completely whacked out most of the time. The movie is absolutely useless!

Question; Who's the hottest man-eater ever? Answer; Megan Fox in Jennifer's Body. Truly speaking I didn't have much expectation from this movie and the sole reason I watch it was because my friend who thinks Megan Fox is the hottest girl alive (Note; He also supports mud wrestling and open bath houses). So when I sat down to watch it, I had two things in mind. Firstly munch on as many popcorn as possible and secondly, not to let my friend get too close to the screen. A fame ritual gone wrong transforms an every-day all-so-popular high-school girl into a man eating demon. The funny thing is that the ritual goes wrong because their sacrifice aka Megan Fox isn't a virgin. Honestly I had a riot of a time laughing over this little bit.

Though Megan has done an amazing job with her character and at times did give me the heeby-jeebies, I can't deny the lack of commitment in the vast majority of the cast. If your a Megan fan, then watch it. But then if you are one, you probably would have. Bon appetit!

With just two months short of the new year, the movie industry gained momentum like crazy with many good if not great flicks. They had seriously saved the best for the last. I'll be posting about them soon or maybe tomorrow!

La Roux; La Roux

During the last few years a number of British artist have crossed over into the American Market and have achieved reasonable success. One of the acts that made it there and now has spread over to other parts of the world is the English electropop duo La Roux. Having fashioned themselves behind the shock of red hair the lead singer possesses, it is a very interesting musical act no doubt. Previously having little to no exposure, the duo burst into the scene over the summer and proceeded to quickly climbed the chart, giving Little Boots some serious competition.

La Roux released their debut album also titled, La Roux on June 29th. The lead singer, Eleanor Jackson, has done a crazy awesome job over the record. Her input can be noted clearly all over the place from song-writing to music production to video direction. It's just not how she sings, but also in how she looks, that makes her destined for greatness.

In the third wave of British Invasion compromising largely of female musicians, it is easy to get lost in the sea of colour, glitter and curves. But not in the case of La Roux, everything about her screams original.

The album has taken all the great things from the echo genre and thrown it in with a modern twist. The song-writing has devilish tint to it, with majority of them written by La Roux themselves. The slight naughtiness along with wit full flirt is a sure-fire way to a fun record. Ben Langmaid who creates the invisble half of the duo is a genius at music production. The beats are super-catchy.

The opening track 'In For The Kill' indeed tells us what La Roux is up to. It's an excellent starting track and totally sets the listener into the mood for the album. Elly aka Eleanor sings effortlessly in falsetto through out the song. The five tracks to follow 'In For The Kill', follow it along the lines of creativity.

Up tempo, strong beats, cheek-in-tongue lyrics and killer tunes!

'Bulletproof', 'Tigerlily' and 'I'm Not Your Toy' are particular stand outs. 'Quicksand' and 'Colourless Color' are also good tracks, but the former are simply amazing. 'Bulletproof' is an instant stand-out. Ben Langmaid has done an awesome task at creating a catchy stream that Elly has wrapped beautifully with words. This album definitely has alot of thought involved, all of which resulted in an overall A+ record.

Another really interesting aspect of the duo is the awesome music videos. 'Bulletproof' and 'I'm Not Your Toy' have really cool video. Do check them out!

Half way through the album and all you'll be listening to are dance anthems. So when the seventh track 'Cover My Eyes' turns out to be a ballad, one would be pretty amazed. I didn't have much expectations at this point, I had cast her into the category of dance artists. But after this little number, I had to change my mind. It's absolutely amazing!

Elly's vocals are probably the most important factor as to why this track shines so much. They are completely heartfelt and thoroughly genuine. One of the reason La Roux straight away struck me as different from alot of the other acts out there right now was the lack of the presence of background vocalists. This track however is an exception to that trend and we do find background vocalist crooning. A very focal point for a good ballad, this is definitely one of the best songs of the record. A treat to listen, no doubt!

Though there have been no reports of further singles being released, but if there has to be a fifth single I'm hoping it is 'Cover My Eyes'.

Unfortunately the album takes a tumble downwards from here. While 'As If By Magic' though still retains some of the magic noticed in the first six tracks of the record, 'Fascination' and 'Reflections Are Protection' completely disappoint me. The song are good no doubt, but they seem abit too amateur for Elly. It seems as if she unintentionally crossed over to a dancey pop genre, it doesn't suit her well.

'Armour Love' which is the eleventh track off the record and the second ballad also fails to impress me. It is somewhat better than the two tracks previous to it, but it lacks the depth 'Cover My Eyes' had. It didn't grow on me at all and really didn't stay in my library for long.

Fortunately the album closes on a much better note with the song 'Growing Pain'. La Roux embrace their earlier sound and give some of the much needed goodness that was needed. It's really sad to see a well planned and brilliantly produced album end on a bad spot. La Roux has sealed the deal with a solid record with seven awesome tracks. A very good dance album no doubt!

While the US of A may have the very awesome Lady GaGa, UK has La Roux. A stand-out recording artist! The only possible artists I can think who can match the potential of La Roux are Little Boots and Pixie Lott.

Currently they have started writing material for the second album but no date has been announced for it's release. They are trying for a different sound this time round, I'll be looking forward to what they produce but I'm hoping they do not fall into the cliche of a pop duo.

Pretty Darn Amazing!

Computer Animated flicks almost never go wrong. Not only do they cater to a very wide range of audience, which makes them extremely suitable for family time. But they sort of have an unwavering, never dying charm to them. It's no wonder that whenever I'm bored out of my head, I pull out any computer animated title at random from my collection.

The year '09 was a very good for computer animated flicks. Over here I'm putting up my Top 5 favorites. We're starting with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at the 5th spot.

I saw it's trailer sometime during the summer and the concept of food falling down from sky has always been a secret fantasy of mine. Food and Kelly Clarkson concert tickets with backstage passes.

The movie is extremely enjoyable and if you have a little one with a penchant of eating, this movie is a must-see. Mutated food, spaghetti tornadoes, ice-cream rainfall, talking monkey; what in here is not to love?!

Number four spot goes to the Reese Witherspoon starring Monsters vs. Aliens.

The animation reminded me a little of one of the earliest CA flicks, Monsters Inc. Incredibly cute and hysterically funny. The cast chemistry is absolutely top-notch. I can't seem to have a favorite. Scenes involving Missing Link and B.O.B. are undiluted pleasure.

And it has a very awesome surprise in store towards the end. A must watch, guys. A must watch!

Coming to the third spot, we have a Computer Animated Classic. There are only two, so not really that hard to figure out. Yes, I'm talking about Ice Age 3; Dawn of the Dinosaurs. In case your wondering, the other CA Classic is Shrek. The plot is completely fresh with all of the four characters; Manny the Mammoth, Sid the Sloth, Diego the Saber-toothed Tiger and Scrat, the Saber-toothed, Squirrel. I was especially surprised and extremely happy to see that my favorite character, Skrat; got a rather engaging story-line. And though this needs not to be mentioned, but John Leguizamo nails it once again with his character Sid. Ice Age 3; Dawn of the Dinosaurs is definitely going to be staying in my library for a very long time. That is as soon I get it back from my nephew.

Just a step down from the best, we have the genius Tim Burton's Fall masterpiece, 9. Personally speaking CA flicks involving action are flops on my personal scale, but 9 is a definitely exception to that rule. I absolutely loved the movie. I love the concept behind the movie that one is not responsible for what others do as long as he/she stays true to his motives and that no matter how messed up things can be, we can start over. Also whoever decided to cast Elijah Wood into the lead role of Number 9 is an completely precise at getting the right work done. Elijah has done an amazing voice-over job.

On the final spot we have the summer blockbuster, Up. This movie absolutely drove me crazy. I love this movie and is my favorite CA movie of 2009. The casting especially of the kid, Russell and the dog, Dug is pure genius.I saw this movie five times in the theaters and also happens to be the very first movie I saw in States. Hahahaha, I know that fact is kind of stupid but I'll always remember this wonder.

Before I leave you, there is another CA movie I want you guys to check out. It's really short, it can't be of more than 6 minutes. It's titled Partly Cloudy and it ran right before Up in the theaters. It's hilarious. If you don't have stomach cramps from laughing by the time the movie ends, then you don't know how to laugh. Do check it out.

Gleeked Out!

Sometime ago I had put up a post of my fall/winter TV addiction, the TV series Glee. On 9th December, the first season of Glee came to an end with it's 13th episode Sectionals drawing the highest ever viewing since it's Pilot. So when I say the season ended with a bang, I'm not kidding!

Being the huge musicholic I am, it pretty much made sense that Glee would win me over easily. But it proved to be the 'It' show. This was something that surprised many people as High School Musical didn't recieve major success beyond it's first part. Glee had ensnared it's followers right from the day it's Pilot test-aired right after the Season 8 American Idol Finale on May 19th.

The songs featured during the series are pretty darn amazing and sung my the cast itself, which makes the songs a tad bit more original. The cast which compromises mostly of Broadway novices won over the audience. The American Idol reject - Amber Riley - happens to be my favorite of the lot. I'm a huge fan of her big belting ballads. She brings nothing but the best forward. Other interesting characters in the line-up are Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Mark Sallings and Jane Lynch. also portray very interesting characters. Lea Michele who plays the female lead somehow manages to annoy me but she's a pretty darn amazing singer.

Though my fall/winter addiction has come to an end, my spring/summer addiction is about to start. Yes, people. American Idol Season 9 makes it debut on January 12th. Excited, na?

I am!

On a closing note, Glee is running for four categories in the 2010 Golden Globe Awards. Best Comedy Series, Best Actress (Lea Michele), Best Actor (Cory Monteith) and Best Supporting Actress (Jane Lynch). I'm guessing they would definitely be bagging the Best Comedy Series and Supporting Actress. But let's see!

Fearless; Jazmine Sullivan

Jazmine burst into the music scene last year with her debut album, Fearless. Truly speaking I had no idea about her till a few weeks ago. I came across one of the songs from her songs on Glee and traced it back to her album. After a few minutes of waiting I had the album and after one listen I was pretty much hyped about it. To pit it in just a sentence I'd say; One of the BEST R&B albums ever!

No denying it at all!

Jazmine is undeniably one of the best R&B artists of the current generation. Previously she had appeared on writing credits for artists like Jennifer Hudson, Cristina Milan and Fantasia. It was later that the rapper Missy Elliot took interest in her. She took Jazmine under her wing and signed her to J Records.

Being a songwriter herself, Jazmine co-wrote many of the songs. My favorites from the album are 'Bust Your Windows', 'Lions, Tigers and Bears', 'One Night Stand', 'Dream Big' and 'Fear'. I would especially recommend the 'Lions, Tigers and Bears' and 'Fear'. These are pretty much Jazmine at her best.

Being a R&B album, it is definitely not complete without a few club bangers. 'Bust Your Windows', 'One Night Stand' and 'Switch!' provide some snazzy upbeat tunes for the listeners to bust a move. As mentioned earlier, 'One Night Stand' is a definite stand-out.

'Bust Your Windows' claimed the #1 spot on the US R&B Charts, but for me it somehow lacks somewhere. The Glee cast member, Amber Riley (Playing the character Mercedes Jones) did a much better version of it during the show's run. But I guess also somewhat influenced by Jazz artist, Jazmine included that it to a certain deal. Personally speaking it seems like an R&B version of Carrie Underwood's Country Hit 'Before He Cheats'. What do you think?

'Need U Bad' which was the first single off the record and has writing credits to Missy Elliot is also a good one. Somehow I'm not entirely feeling it. It's good but not great.

Being an R&B artist, there have to be some cool ballads and we get a plentiful classy ones right here. The best of all has to be 'Lions, Tigers and Bears'. It is the third single off the record and I am pretty much crazy about the video and would totally recommend you to check it out. Another ballad that caught my attention is 'Call Me Guilty', though I'm not a big fan of the message the song is delivering. It's sort of a guilty pleasure.

'Fear' which features writing collaboration with the great Stevie Wonder is an absolute classic. To have a song like this cut out for a debut album is a huge deal for a starting artist. This is probably a track that's going to be staying in my play list for a long-time. Do give it a listen, I have a feeling it will soon be your favorite as well.

'My Foolish Heart', 'After the Hurricane' and 'In Love With Another Man' are three other ballads that can be found on the record. Good stuff but they didn't grow on me as compared to the other tracks. 'Dream Big' was the first single to be charted in the UK and did a successful run over there. It's a cool song, as mentioned earlier it's one of my favorites.

If your an R&B enthusiast, then you're denying yourself a real treat by missing on Fearless!

I'm Not Dead; P!NK

Being the amateur song-writer I am, I sort of have a habit of looking up to other song-writers out there. When I'm looking for an artist, one of the major factor I consider when rating them is their ability to write songs. Given that situation it must be pretty darn clear that P!NK would be one of my favorite artists.

P!NK has always amazed me with her ability to write songs. She sticks to what she knows and comes up with the most brilliant lyrics one can listen to. This album has a slight different pattern to it. Her previous album, Try This released in 2003. She took a gap of three years before she put out her fourth effort, I'm Not Dead.

How is this album different from the rest you may ask?!

Well, it turns out that many of the songs you would find on it were originally the poetry she had written during her experimental phase. It seems she has written a song of just about everything; death of a friend, loneliness, growing up, masturbation. It seems just about her entire life is bunched into an album consisting of 17 tracks.

While the underlying genre still happens to be punk, P!NK throws in her soul and makes it sound alot mature that one could normally expect from punk songs. The process of making the album made P!NK grow wise beyond her years, which can be clearly noticed in some of the more intense tracks which deal with matter beyond love.

Though I'm a complete fan of her up-tempo material, I seem to be more drawn into the slower paced creations this time around. 'I'm Not Dead', 'Nobody Knows', 'Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self' and 'Who Knew' simply take my breath away. There is a reason I look up to her and these songs clearly tell why. If I could write like this, I'd die from happiness. All of these are simply stellar. Why am I saying that with such surety?!

Well it's been about 3 years since the album has released and I'm still having them around in my playlist. Its so hard to pick a favorite. I simply can't. I'm pretty much leaving it up to you guys whether to listen to the album after reading my reviews, but I really want you to listen to these four. They're a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

Coming back to the uptempo songs, one can simply not listen to 'Stupid Girls' and walk in another direction. It's amazing how P!NK can wrap such a crazy theme into a song. This song is why people love P!NK. The song talks about the lack of role model for the female of the new generations and how they are beginning to think in the direction that are turning them into blond bimbo clones and erasing individuality amongst them. It's super catchy and clearly meaningful at the same time.Plus the video is completely awesome, Dave Meyers is a genius. He also directed the video for 'So What' from the fifth album Funhouse.

Other fast paced dance floor bangers include 'Cuz I Can', 'U + Ur Hand' and 'Leave Me Alone (I'm Lonely)'. After a few of the brilliant slow numbers, P!NK gives the listener a huge adrenaline rush with these track and knocks it out of the ball park. 'Long Way To Happy' is a complete rock track and very reminiscent of her song 'Last To Know' from her third album Try This.

The bonus tracks are cool stuff that had some real potential to make it to the album, but there is a limit to the number of songs you can put on an album. 'I Have Seen The Rain' is written by P!NK's father, James T. Moore. It is about his experience in the Vietnam War. It is another favorite of mine, there is something about this song that gives me goosebumps. 'Fingers' is a very naughty track. Very seriously speaking I was very shocked when I heard it and was very much amazed of P!NK's ability to pen songs. But yeah, I must admit it reminds me abit of Kylie Minogue's 'Love At First Sight'.

P!NK adopts the rocker chick in her once again with the bonus tracks, 'Centrefold' and 'Heartbreaker'. They're definitely good songs so if you can get them do give them a listen.

As I'm about to close this one up I simply couldn't resist put in a small word for 'Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self' . Even though it's all about her world, it does happen to make you recall the first fall into one of the most important years of our lives, how easily it is to get caught up in the things around ourselves and how we wish we could have done things differently back then. I'm a huge huge huge fan of this song.

P!NK has continued to amaze me and even in her fifth album she blew me away. She could possibly be coming up with her sixth effort sometime late in 2010 or early 2011, but it is not for certain right now. Anyhow with me loving her four albums in a row, I'm hell sure that I'll be madly in love with her sixth as well whenever that might be.

The Fame; Lady GaGa

One of the most impact making albums released in the history of music has to be the very solid Lady GaGa's debut effort, The Fame. It received numerous rave reviews and has been an immense commercial success. The album did so much for GaGa. It literally propelled her into the ranks of fame and fortune at warp speed, this can be attirbuted specially to the amazing dance numbers, 'Pokerface' and 'Just Dance'. The latter being the debut single of the mega-star, featuring guest vocals from Colby O'Donis.

The album is a true pop record to the core with blazing dance anthems, jump-start floor bangers and a few heart wrenching ballads. All the while being embedded with fierce techno beats and crazy catchy hooks. The albums has spawned six singles, three of which have four have gone to become chart-toppers; 'Just Dance', 'Pokerface', 'LoveGame' and 'Paparazzi'.

I remembered watching Channel V sometime in the summer nights of May around 3am when they show-cased the video for 'Just Dance'. By the time the song had ended I was hooked on it. They showed it again on the following day and then I knew that I need to download it now.

By 5pm I distinctively remember having it on my iPod by 5pm on the same day, bless the infinite source of wisdom and fun a.k.a internet. After that I was pretty much following any GaGa related news. When her album released on August 19th, I downloaded it instantly and played it back to back. And I can truly say it was one of my favorite albums from 2008.

I'm still hooked on the songs 'Just Dance', 'Pokerface' and 'LoveGame'. It's been a stable of the audio CD I keep burning to play for my car. These are no doubt my favorite tracks from the album, along with the ballad 'Brown Eyes'.

Speaking of ballads, 'Again Again' is also really good. For an artist who's staple creativity is vented out in the form of dance anthems, a decent ballad is a very good thing. A fantastic ballad is simply an amazing deal. Lady GaGa can do it all no doubt.

'Paparazzi' is another favorite of mine, but it took time to grow on me and for some reason I prefer the LIVE! versions alot more than the one on the record, you guys can check out the video over here. The video is no doubt one of the very best that have appeared in 2009, it's so creative and original. Everything from the Mickey Mouse inspired get-up to the metal-plated armor with crutches. I really don't know what fuels her but whatever it is, it burns bright baby!

'(Eh Eh)Nothing Else I Can Say' is an interesting track no doubt, however it doesn't have the huge impact on me. I would rather have one of the ballads as a single. It seems to be a cross-over to soft pop but somehow I think GaGa can do alot better than this. Firstly because there are several tracks on this album that out-class it and there are several tracks to be revealed later which leave this one in the dust.

'Beautiful, Dirty, Rich' is nothing but catchy catchy catchy. From the moment it starts, it literally starts slipping of the tip of your tongue. The only two songs catchier than this are 'Poker Face' and 'LoveGame', especially the later. To the few dance parties I attended, these three were often present somewhere along the playlist. Definite crowd pleaser!

Colby O'Donis is not the only musician making an appearance on the record. Close personal friend of GaGa, the Space Cowboy and Flo Rida both make an appearance on the track, 'Starstruck'. Too bad this was a bonus track, had it been featured on the album itself I am very much sure it could have been a single. The other two bonus tracks are also pretty cool, 'Paper Gangsta' is a catchy track. I would definitely recommend it. Oh wait, I already have! :p

'Money Honey' and 'The Fame' pretty much revolve around the same concept. It's about the love and longing for the high and fast life-style, the never-ending parties and the desire to have it all. Lady GaGa is definitely one of the most powerful new-age songwriters. The only other person I can think of who writes very good song on her own is the original punk rock chick, P!NK.

Having emerged in mid-2008, Lady GaGa very quickly became the most-talked about and the most sought-after musician in just a matter of few days. Her record was simply her and I think that was the most important factor of all. Great producers can do alot but not everything. For the rest, it's up to the artist himself/herself. After writing for several musical acts, GaGa got her shot at fame and she made nothing but the absolute best out of it!

I'm Back!!

My internet connection had been malfunctioning since December 5th. After many trips to my service provider, some very strongly-worded fights which I swear I never knew I was capable of and long hours on the telephone with the Service's 'Emergency Service', my net connection is finally restored.

It's been terrible being away from the blogosphere!

Seriously, no kidding! I never knew it was such an addiction for me. Putting up new posts and reading what you guys have put up. But the absence gave me some very awesome ideas for new posts, which I'll be putting up very soon. With the new year coming up soon, I've got to post at least once daily if I want to cover all that stuff that I have planned to do before 2010 starts.

I don't know yet how that will work out but the fact that I have my vacations till 4th January is a huge plus point for me. So buckle up readers!

Saadi's back...and possibly alot better!

Battlefield; Jordin Sparks

One of the most anticipated summer releases of 2009 was the sophomore effort of the 19 year old American Idol Season 6 winner. Her debut album generated the lowest first week sales of any Idol winner. However it also stayed for considerable time amongst the radio-waves, this success can be attributed largely to the collaboration with the young hip-hop and R&B sensation, Chris Brown, on 'No Air'. By the way, he is also releasing an album this year. Titled Graffiti, out on December 8th.

Battlefield released on July 17th, features a much stronger Sparks. However the album leaves much to be desired. Sparks is a pretty darn good vocal artist, however to give her the commercial appeal her label has dampened the artist inside of her. Truly being a R&B artist, Sparks was pushed to cross-over to pop. Her previous album though was a mix of the two genres as well, but was more rooted to Sparks.

The standard edition has twelve tracks, with the deluxe edition adding two more to the group. The track listing is as follows;

If someone would ask me to rate this album out of 10, I would give it 6.5. And I really hate doing that to Sparks, but this album just doesn't give me the spark I was expecting from her. My biggest argument with the record is that why was Sparks made to cross-over to pop?!

'Walking On Snow', 'Battlefield', 'It Takes More', 'Watch You Go' and 'No Parade' are the real tracks off the record. The ones that hold Sparks' true element in form. The pop ballad 'Papercut' is a surprising pleaser as well. 'Battlefield' which has the genius touch of One Republic frontman Ryan Tedder is a brilliant piece of pop and the only pop number which seems to get some credit. If they wanted Sparks to fight for the title of Princess of Pop, they should have gotten Tedder to put more effort into the record and give Sparks some more song.

'Battlefield' is most definitely one of the best songs of 2009 and I'm totally recommending you to listen to it. 'No Parade' and 'It Takes More' are two other songs, I would be recommending here. Do check them out!

One track I was particularly surprised of was the cover version of Fefe Dobson's rock wonder 'Don't Let It Go To Your Head'. I just don't get what their label was thinking of making Sparks do a cover version. If I wanted to hear her sing covers, I would go back to the time she was on Idol. Taking a pretty darn good song and making a cross-over pop singer try a hand at it is not a very smart move. Dobson clearly outclasses her and there isn't much Sparks can do about it. Dobson is vocally very superior. If you are interested in Spark's version of the song, check it out here.

Another track that has me baffled is 'S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)'. It appears that the label tested how Sparks would do as a dance artist. Relying heavily on techno beats, it gives a touch of disco fever. I do like the song but I'm not crazy about it. Sparks could do well as a dance artist but then give a chimpanzee a mike and go techno, so would he. Remember the dude who claims his music can cure cancer?!

I'm not a fan at all of the songs 'Emergency (911)', 'Postcard' and 'Was I the Only One?'. Lyrically speaking, they seem completely useless. And therefore really hold no weight for me. Especially the first of three! I gave it one listen and I wanted to erase it from my memory. I know I'm being really critical but it's just not worthy of Sparks.

'The Cure' is okay, nothing really special about it that makes me want to go back to it again but then I don't skip it either. I also have a decent amount of liking for 'Faith', but I want R&B. I do not want pop. Sparks gives it her best shot and put her heart and soul into the piece, but even then she's no pop artist.

Sparks is possibly one of the most under-rated artist currently present in the music industry. This can be clearly evaluated from the fact that her label has yet to organize a tour with her as the head-lining act. She won American Idol and you are having her be the supporting act for the Jonas Brothers. It doesn't make any sense at all. They have yet to promote it the correct way, singing National Anthem at Super Bowl is not album promotion. Spend a little bit more on music videos so it doesn't seem like some kid with a handy-cam made them (Referring to Battlefield) and plan them abit more as well S.O.S (Let the Music Play).

And for the sweet love of Lord, no cover versions! Hopefully this all would change with her third record. I really hope there is a third record, I would really hate to see such a talent being shot down because of the label's short-sight.

Change - Carrie Underwood

If there is anyone I'm freak'in crazy about besides Kelly Clarkson, is her fellow American Idol alumni Carrie Underwood. Just having released her third album, Play On. Having sold almost 318k in just it's first week, one can most definitely believe that it will going Platinum soon.

I have already put up a review of the album shortly after it was released. And if you have read it, you must be knowing that Change is the best track off the record in my opinion. I have played it countless number of times in my iTunes, iPod and my cell. I've transferred it to anyone who was willing to lend his or her cell for a couple of minutes. And yes, I did manage to convert a few. :D

Carrie Underwood performed the song LIVE! on the CNN Heroes Award about 2 weeks ago behind a full orchestra. And I gotta say it!

I'm crazy in love about the song! I've already tagged it in my favorites! And by the way, she got a standing O from the crowd! At least some people can still recognize a vocalist when they hear one!

Oh and on a side note, I will be putting up the album review of Orianthi second album very soon. Those of you who are not aware of her. She was the guitarist chosen for the late King of Pop Michael Jackson for his comeback concert, This Is It!. It is one of the best rock albums from a female artist I have heard this year! Keep in tune for that!

It Won't Be Soon Before Long; Maroon 5

Maroon 5 burst into the scene in 2002 with their debut album Songs About Jane, the album was well recieved. But then they produced no album for almost 5 years. Their follow up effort It Won't Be Soon Before Long came along in 2007. Yes, after five years of nothing but extensive touring Maroon 5 laid out their sophomore effort. And from what I've heard, the wait was totally worth the waiting.

The album has a very retro 80's feel to it. Incoporating that with the modern electro influence, their alternative rock album not only bought something very new to the table but also nobody has been able to reproduce it with the same perfection ever since. All the tracks have been penned down by the band members with most being done by Adam Levine. The tracklisting is as follows;

The album spreads it's roots from the themes of obsession, possesiveness, wanting, physical attraction, young romance, falling relations, odd and self-destructive behavior with a slight comical and satirical approach to the whole theme at time.

My favorite tracks from the whole bunch is 'Won't Go Home Without You' and 'Nothing Last Forever'. Levine's vocals are classy, no doubt. Before I start taking on the songs, I want to start with the best of them all; 'Won't Go Home Without You'. Amazing song with one of the most amazing videos ever! A definite pleaser, especially the leading lady. Pretty falls short to describe her. However we're not talking about her, we're talking about the band Maroon 5. Still, she was really pretty!

The faster, up-tempo tracks take much influence from club music. It can be clearly noted in the tracks like 'If I Never See Your Face Again' and 'Makes Me Wonder'. It's a bold approach that indeed does seem to work. Other fast paced tracks include the racy 'Wake Up Call', but it is more alternative than funk in my opinion. This happens to be another one that I like alot.

'If I Never See Your Face Again' was reproduced as a bonus track. Also this time, Rihanna was featured on vocals in a duet with Levine. The song recieved major air-play, but as much as I have started loving Rihanna since Good Girl Gone Bad, I didn't like her collaboration with Maroon 5. She should stick to dance anthems and R&B chart toppers.

'Little Of Your Time' and 'Can't Stop' are two more fast tracks from the album. Levin's hurried vocals are impressive. 'Nothing Lost Forever' as mentioned sometime ago, is one of my two favorite track. I love the smoothness with which it flows, it's definitely one of the best Maroon 5 tracks ever. I was very dissappointed when they chose 'Goodnight Goodnight' as the fifth and last single from the album. The former has the lyrical depth that is just so immaculate. Absolutely amazing!

'Goodnight Goodnight' is more of a pop track than a rock song in my opinion. It's nice, but there is nothing about it that will make me go back to it. As I said just a while ago, it's nice! However the track recieved huge success in Brazil. Good for them!

Two tracks that particularly carry the 80's feel in concentrated amounts are 'Not Falling Apart' and 'Better That We Break'. While the ballad 'Back At Your Door' is heavily piano driven. Levine commented on having drawn inspiration from Alicia Keys and it clearly shows in this track, as the R&B singer is widely and commonly known for her strong piano melodies.

'Kiwi' and 'Infatuation' are two more fast tracks. 'Kiwi' is simply far too sexual and creeps me out on most of the parts. 'Infatuation' is another bonus track, it's good not great. It's a clear pop track but it's a Maroon 5 pop track. The group's emblem is there, nothing to worry about!

Maroon 5's third studio album is out sometime early next year. There has been no definite date announced as yet. Sadly that will be their last studio effort, Levine has commented that he wants to go in a different direction. Also that he doesn't see himself together with the band in his 40's and 50's. It's sad news but I'll be keeping my ears out for any stuff he comes out with. And yes, you will be notified!

Every year there is a TV series that has everyone talking. For the last year, the teenagers of Upper East Side have been taking the cake with the very sexy and spicy Gossip Girl. A story revolving around a group of students who's lives are constantly in public eye thanks to an anonymous blogger titled Gossip Girl. The first two season were huge hits amongst the TV watchers. But this year, Gossip Girl has taken a back seat to the FOX newcomer Glee.

The story revolves around a group of teenagers, most of them who happen to be under-dogs in their high school's social scene. Really not belonging to any particular group as nobody wants them, are collected under the banner of their school's Glee Club, titled New Directions.

Their director is an ex-glee club member himself from the Class of 1993, William Schuester( Played by Matthew Morrison). The student initially is made up of the melodramatic vocal talent Rachael Berry( Played by Lea Michele), the flamboyant soprano Kurt Hummel(Played by Chris Colfer), the sassy plus-sized 'Beyonce' Mercedes Jones( Played by Amber Riley), the shy introvert Tina Cohen-Chang( Played by Jenna Ushkowitz) and the paraplegic guitar player, also my favorite of the bunch Artie Abrams( Played by Kevin McHale).

They are later joined by the football Quarterback Finn Hudson( Played by Cory Monteith). His joining throws the school's social status quo out of the window. Glee club gets another surprising entry when the head cheer-leader, Quinn Fabray( Played by Dianna Agron) who is protecting her best interests(Read; Love Interest). The last important member to join the Glee Club is the proud and cocky, Noah 'Puck' Puckerman (Played by Mark Sallings), not the best singer of the group by he's my favorite male character in the series.

Other characters include the Head Coach for the Cheer Leaders Sue Sylverster (Played by Jane Lynch), the hygiene obsessed school counselor Emma Pillsbury (Played by Jayma Mays; On a very personal note, she's freak'in adorable) who has feelings for Will Schue and Will's nagging wife Terri Schuester (Played by Jessalyn Gilsig). Although I have tagged this post with the label Musicals, the last three characters really don't have any singing opportunities except for Emma who sings once during an episode and is seen lip-syncing to a tearful track in her car at certain point in the series and Sue who's shown dancing.

The cast though very cliche has extremely powerful chemistry. I can pin-point very similar characters from other TV Series floating over various network. The only fresh characters I fail to identify anywhere else are Mercedes and Artie, both who happen to be my favorite characters. Also something relatively new I experienced is that the female lead - Rachael Berry is sometimes annoying which can't be said for most female leads. Kurt is another favorite of mine, but reminds me alot of Marc St. James (Played by Michael Urie) from Ugly Betty. I know this can be a very generic remark given both characters are gay and flamboyant, but truly speaking they do seem alot alike.

Being a musical, there have been numerous moments where the cast collectively or solo has burst into singing and dancing. The song selection is remarkable and the character's vocal ability is much to be praised. Some of my favorite are Don't Stop Believing, Bust Your Windows by Amber Riley, Maybe This Time by Rachael Berry and Kristin Chenoweth (Guest starring).

One of my favorite moments during the entire season was the football team breaking down into a very cool song mid-game. I'm not telling you the song but I will tell you to watch the video here and put your hands up!

The ninth episode titled Wheels has been my favorite episode so far. Because it gave deeper insight to the characters of Artie, Tina and Sue. Also the Rachael and Kurt duet on Defying Gravity is simply amazing. The other two songs performed on the episode are also really good, especially the entire cast performing Proud Mary and the Artie going solo on Dancing With Myself. Do check these out!

The first season ends on December 9th at after a total of thirteen episodes. A second season has been confirmed and will premiere sometime around fall next year, hopefully compromising 24 episodes. Get Gleeked!!

On the American Music Awards

On 22nd Los Angeles witnessed the American Music Awards aka the AMAs. There was a score of performances; some were just brilliant, other were watchable and then there were some which were a complete mess from the moment they started.

The night opened with Janet Jackson performing a medley of her hits, including the newly released single 'Make Me'.

For her age, she did a remarkable job. I won't be saying it was the best of the night, but for a show-starter it was good enough. The choreography was on the part of her friend and the ex-American Idol judge, Paula Abdul.

Next one to take the stage was on of my all time favorite bands, Daughtry. Yup! That's right!

Frontman Chris Daughtry never fails to impress me. They sang one of my favorites, 'Life After You' from their sophomore effort Leave This Town. It is also their second single. I have featured the video on the side-bar, do check it out!

It was a rock solid performance and definitely one of the better ones of the night. I'm liking their sophomore effort alot more than their debut, the songs are more hard-hitting on a comparatively and lyrically pretty darn good.

After Daughtry, we have the Latin Diva Shakira shake her stuff on stage. I have never been a fan of Shakira, expect for the time she collaborated with Beyonce on 'Beautiful Liars'. I'm sure you must have seen the video, the song made history by jumping from #98 to #1 within a week. Coming back to Shakira, she released her new album She Wolf last month and so far she's put out two singles. Both of them are doing really good on the charts. Here she performed the joint effort of Lil Wayne, without him though(Thank God!). Plus she was looking smoking hot! :D

I'm still not a fan of the song, but the choreography is simply mind-blowing. That is one thing you can definitely count on Shakira for. The only one who could out-shake her is Beyonce, who unfortunately wasn't present on the night. But on a side-note, she did win the award for Favorite female R&B artist and announced that she will be releasing her new album sometime in 2010.

Next one up was the Country heart-throb, Keith Urban. He performed his chart-topping hit, 'Kiss A Girl'. To all the guys reading this, you need to check out this song. It's one of the most catchy country songs I've ever heard. And the fact that Urban is one of the best live performers ever just sweetens the deal alot more.

And I'm totally grooving to his finger-work! If only I could play a guitar that well!

Keith Urban took the award for Favorite Country Male Artist. That has got to count for something. Enjoy!

Next one up is my all-time favorite pop rock female artist. Any guesses?

If any of you thought Kelly Clarkson, you are SO right! 10 points for knowing me so well!

Clarkson performed one of the best songs to be released in 2009, 'Already Gone'. I have been a fan of this song ever since I heard it for the first time back in March 2009, and it is still going strong on my personal play list. I've read quite a few comments on the complete mess she's looking like and I have to say, if you can sing like that you don't need to be all glammed up. I'm loving her completely!

How can anybody care about how she looks when she sings like that?! Uh-mazing!

Next up were two immensely talented African-American artists of the present time, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z. I have never been a fan of rapping. The only rapper I listen to is my cousin back in States, but that's cause I enjoy his funny take on rapping.

Anyhow coming back to the AMAs, Jay-Z collaborations are pretty darn good. Pair him up with the vocal greatness of Alicia Keys, how can you not have a crowd-pleasing performance?!

The two presented 'Empire State of Mind' from Jay-Z's new album, Blue Print 3. Enjoy!

Next up was the winner of Best Pop/Rock Band, Group or Duo. Yup, I'm talking about none other than the Black Eyed Peas. I love how they came from underground. I know it's an age-old trick, but this entrance always sends chill down my spine. I've been a long time fan of Fergie! And any red-blooded male would also be!

This latin spice is just too hot and ever since she went brunette all over the world, she's just doubled her fierceness. People say Megan Fox is a hottie. I tell them to take a good look at Fergie and then say the same! The BEP start off with their new single, 'Meet Me Halfway' and about half-way into the performance they break out into their world-wide hit, 'Boom Boom Pow'.

I love Taboo working the crowd! I love Fergie shaking her stuff! On a side not, the BEP did not lip-sync. There is something wrong with the youtube video and I can't find a better one! Sorry!

Next up is the first disaster of the night and a very un-expected one at that. I'm talking about Rihanna! But given everything she has decided to do lately, it wasn't a big surprise that she fell through! The awful blonde hair, the new singles, the video direction! She's is totally off her game!

What was even worse was that the starting video had me expecting so much. But that was the only good part of the whole performance. Fortunately the next performance saved the momento of the show.

Carrie Underwood took the stage next and performed the Country Chart-topper 'Cowboy Casanova' from her third album Play On. Awesome album, by the way!

Carrie appeared a bit more skimpier than I would have liked her to dress. She's a great singer and really doesn't need to sell herself with her skin. But then I agree that this song isn't a typical country number. Nevertheless, she delivers a very solid performance. Completely knocks Rihanna out of the park!

Now the performance I'm going to putting up is the best of the lot! This performance should have been the one to end the night. It's creative! It's dramatic! It's original! It's crazy! It's the one and the only! It's GaGa!

There is a reason she's the talk every where! And this is exactly why! No performance up till now was fused with this much soul! It's absolutely brilliant! The head-dress, the exo-skeleton, the dancing, the paino placed on a podium and let's not forget the flaming piano!

I loved it when she broke the glass bottles! She's simply amazing! Even before I had seen the video, I knew Gaga would be having the best of the night! And she did! She's out-pazzed everyone! And I mean, everyone! In case your wondering, the song are 'Bad Romance'' and 'Speechless' from her new album Fame Monster which was released just yesterday, that is November 23rd.

Next up we have the vocal powerhouse I have loved alot, Mary J. Blige.

This was a nice performance. She performed 'I Am' from her new album which is out sometime in December. I am no fan of this song but for some reason I liked it when she performed it. Not one of the great ones but definitely one of the good ones. Do check her out!

Next up is the another latin diva, any guesses?

C'mon, guys! This one is so easy! There are just three after all! Shakira, Fergie and J. Lo! And she did a great job with her very fresh single Louboutins, it's from her new album which will be released sometime in January 2010. It's a great song and I loved her performance. Her energy is remarkable and here's something really remarkable that happened during the performance. Let's see if you can spot it in the video.

Yup! She fell during the performance! But even then look at how composed she stayed! It was like that fall was meant to be! She kept going on strong! Go J. Lo! Oh and I'm totally crazy about this song! I can't wait for it's video to premiere.

Then we had Whitney Houston take the stage. She also won the International Artist of the Year. Ho hum!

Nothing really amazing happened here! I'm sorry but Whitney doesn't seem to have it in her anymore! After the number of stunning performances she gave, this one embarrasses her! But I won't be surprised if she wins a Grammy for her album the coming year!

C'mon, it's Whitney we're talking about here!

Alicia Keys comes on the stage again, this time she's got dancers! And she's singing her latest single 'Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart' from her new album out in December Element of Freedom. A truly awesome song! And it's Alicia Keys! Hullo?!

You can literally count on her to give the right stuff! And she does!

I loved this performance, especially how she ended it! Being a really quiet person in general, she usually doesn't put on much of a show! But this time she took a risk and it paid off extremely well. Great going!

No Award Night in complete without a performance filled with censor mutes! This time around we have Eminem along with Dr. Dre and Slim Shady.

They performed 'Crack A Bottle' and 'Forever'. It's actually enjoyable for about the first two minutes after which it just breaks down into insane swearing, which means insane censoring and hence a completely waste of a performance. Where is Kanye when you need him?!

I so needed something to cheer me up after the huge waste Eminem ft. Censor Squad made us watch on the night. Timbaland was just the thing, the doctor advised. He was accompanied by his very recent discovery, the french artist SoShy and the very gorgeous mama, Nelly Furtado!

Loved it! And you have an actual french woman in there! How can you not love this?! A catchy song! Beautiful ladies! This is just perfect! Do check this on out!

The night was seriously lacking on the part of rockers. The only rock artist to make an appearance for till now was Daughtry. And he too appeared sometime in the beginning of the show!

The night was majorly littered with pop and R&B performances, with the occasional country twangs. But Green Day gave the rock enthusiasts something to be happy about. Performing their latest single, '21 Guns' Green Day converted me once again to give another of their album a hearings. You can check out their performance here.

Green Day also took the award for the Best Alternative Rock Artist. Other contenders were Kings of Leon and Shinedown. I have no idea about the latter but Kings of Leon are pretty darn good. Do check out their track 'Use Somebody'. It's really awesome!

Lastly we have the most anticipated performance of the night. For those keeping track of the event and having memorized the names of all the performers (Like me) knew that the only remaining name one of the roster was of Adam Lambert.

Now this decision completely shocked me! The last performance is usually given to someone who's really big! Adam is no doubt a star but there were far bigger and better names to end the night with. Whatever happened to Lady GaGa, J. Lo, Green Day, BEP?!

There are so many that could have done this job and done it so much better!

I don't know where to begin in pointing the wrong-doings and mishaps that happened. Let me start with the crotch rubbing, crotch-punching, the tumble, the dry humping, the horrible high-notes, in-appropriate feeling-up and the very force-ful kiss!

Don't get me wrong! I know I'm no Glambert! But I really wanted him to have a good if not great performance because I really like this song and it was the closing act! But this was just a mess! Everything was so ridiculous and so over-done!

But then it wasn't entirely his fault! Giving a new emerging artist the pimp-spot is just plain stupid! But then again I think that this way people would sit through the entire show and they would get more air-time! Aah, the drama of media and markey continues. And poor Adam was caught darn smack in the middle!

I really hope his future LIVE! performances are alot better!

And yeah, one more thing that had me wondering. How in the world did Taylor Swift take home 5, that's right 5; F-I-V-E, AMAs! How in the world did she beat artist like Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, Beyonce, Jason Mraz, Eminem and Michael Jackson?!

Once again, she's not that great! She is not that great! Lord, this is so frustrating! But at least she didn't perform. She did everyone a huge perform by being in London on the night of the AMAs. Yup, she did!

Broken Strings - James Morrison ft. Keisha Buchanan

Broken Strings is possibly the most famous track off the British soft-rock, blue eyed soul boy James Morrison second album, Songs for you, Truths for Me; which is perhaps the best album of 2008. I heard it earlier this year, when one of my very good friends switched his iPod with mine.

Though originally the song features the Canadian sensation, Nelly Furtado. This particular version features te ex-Sugababes member, Keisha Buchanan. Coming to that, she was most definitely the best remaining members and the last from the original line-up. She's an amazing vocalist.

I still like Furtado vocally more on this, but Keisha has definitely done a very decent job. You can check out the original version here. I would recommend you to check that out as well, because aside from Furtado the song has one of the best videos I have ever seen. Creative but simple and also has a very 'personal' feel.

She's Back!!

I just saw the official video for the 17 year old 4th place finisher, Allison Iraheta. I was pretty much obsessed about her during her entire run and was majorly bummed out when she was eliminated. Firstly it was because she was so much better than the other three remaining people and she was definitely better than most on the night she went home.

But all that is long gone and I'm really happy for her. She'll be releasing her debut album, Just For You, on 1st December. Sticking to her rock appeal, I'm definitely placing this album is going to be a solid hit!

Here we have the first single, Friday I'll Be Over You. Vocally she's reminiscent of a younger Kelly Clarkson and that was my biggest fear for her. Kelly Clarkson is an amazing artist and being told that someone is similar to it is a huge compliment. But given everything, nowadays you need to be original. That's the reason Lady GaGa is doing so good all over the place.

The video is amazing. I'm glad it's not the typical plot of a boy being thrown all over place and just shots of Allison and her band. Plus the video comes off slightly comic-ish, which is a good thing. She needed to stay to her age, because vocally she's got the chops to out-sing alot of the people in the industry.

The 43^rdAnnual Country Music Awards also known as the CMAs were held on November 11^th. The star-studded night featured the best and the great country stars and a lot of memorable performances, some of which I would like to forget.

Hosted by Brad Paisley and the very lovable Carrie Underwood, same as last year, the night turned out to be a very memorable night. This can be specially said for the 19 year old Taylor Swift. At 19, Swift is the youngest ever CMA nominee. Standing strong in four categories; Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Country Video and Entertainer of the Year, she bagged them all. And surprisingly, made history!

Now I have absolutely nothing against Taylor Swift. I, myself, am a huge fan of the her sophomore effort Fearless. The album features a collection of extremely well-written songs hooked on to catchy and heart-stringing melodies. But the only basic problem with the album is that it is NOT a country album. It is a complete pop record! A very well-crafted pop record!

How it managed to beat Sugarland’s ‘Love On the Inside’ simply leaves me speechless. And the horror doesn’t end there!

Taylor also beat the likes of Keith Urban and Brad Paisley combined for the hit track ‘Start a Band’ with the sickeningly sweet and sappy ‘Love Story’ for Best Country Video. I know this may come as a surprise, but I simply can not stand this song from the entire album. It just oozes with sentiments and sensitivity that my mind simply refuses to comprehend. But people by the millions seem to croon it everywhere I go, so there must be something about it.

And then she bagged Female Vocalist of the Year!

Now this one is a real shocker. Swift left behind the likes of Reba McEntire, Martine McBride, Miranda Lambert and the Country Superstar Carrie Underwood. Underwood had been winning the award for the Female Vocalist since the last three years in a row. That means ever since her debut, she has been swinging it. Now Carrie Underwood is someone I can totally see winning it. And her being beaten by Lambert, McBride or McEntire is something I don’t want to see but I can believe.

But in what part of this world does Swift take it over Underwood?! Swift can’t perform LIVE to save her life, which can be noticed by viewing her two performances at the CMA. Yes, that’s right!

Swift opened the show with an off-key version of ‘Forever & Always’ and then much later performed an acoustic off-key (Yet again!) ‘Fifteen’. As a female vocalist, she has to be able to perform vocally!

She needs to take the whole book of Carrie Underwood and learn it to heart. Underwood blew her away in the very classy and amazing rendition of ‘Cowboy Casanova’. Now this is what I can a female vocalist!

Furthermore Underwood performed a few parodies in sync with Brad Paisley as a part of her hosting act. Just listen to her!

She can record it into an album and it would sell like hot cakes!

After all of this had happened, the night came to an end with the declaration of the Entertainer of the Year. As much as I can’t believe it, it happened!

Swift beat out Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and George Strait for the category. How?! What?! Why?!

This is criminal!!

I’m glad the CMA night featured some of the most amazing performances by Daughtry, Keith Urban, Sugarland, Brad Paisley and Miranda Lambert otherwise the night would have been a complete loss.

Hopefully next year, Underwood is going to bag several CMAs with her the newly released album ‘Play On’. Do check it out!

Still SO Good!!

This week John and Edward a.k.a Jedward performed the Ghostbusters Theme of the X Factor LIVE show. This happens to be one of the better performances they have given, singing wise. However I was really mad and disappointed in this week's result.

The front-runner and clearly the most talented of the lot, Lucie Jones was sent home. I have no idea how it happened. The fact that she left before the likes of the incredibly boring Lloyd Daniels and terribly over-rated Jamie Archer amazes me beyond belief.

The coming week it's time for the music of Queen. I'll be watching and I'll be posting.

Play On; Carrie Underwood

It's been a while since I have posted any album reviews. Well that's because it takes time to listen to an album, do a little bit of research involved in it's making and then writing it down. I simply don't have that much time during exams. But the just released effort by Carrie Underwood forced me to put down a review because it exceeded my expectations. Underwood's third record Play On released on November 3rd was one of the record I was eagerly waiting for, from the moment I caught the news of it's productions.

Underwood took alot more risks this time by working with many people who have a stable career outside the country market. With names like Kara Dioguardi, Raine Maida, Chantal Kreviazuk, David Hodges, Max Martin and Savan Kotecha, many were wondering if Underwood was planning on something besides country this time round.

However all that was washed away after just one hearing of the record. Yes, it's still a solid country record with light strokes of pop and adult contemporary. Frankly I'm happy about it. She has matured in sound and it's a good thing she experimented. And after all that, she still gives a strong product. This is one country album that is going to be staying on my shelves for a very long time.

As usual Underwood's vocals are a treat to experienced. The most compelling lyrics drenched in the finest country melodies, it's like a slice of heaven served to your pleasure. The album gives you a nice variety from love songs to power ballads to uptempo dance anthems to country finery. It's wholesome goodness.

If your looking for something to tap your feet and bang your head, give your ears a feast of 'Cowboy Casanova' and 'Undo It', where Underwood is heard going on about heart breakers and broken hearts. Her fiery vocals are enough to set any floor on fire and set you in the mood to strut your stuff. And if you're still in the mood for some more uptempo tracks, then lend an ear to 'Quitter', 'This Time' and 'Songs Like This'. These tracks offer you nothing but country and even more country. The latter is a particular favorite of mine, there is a playful sassy side to Underwood's vocal that you just can't help smiling upon hearing. The lyrics are really clever, got to hand it to the song-writers.

'Unapologize' is another fast number, I'm pretty sure if it is meant to be a single it will do crazy well on adult contemporary charts. Underwood's vocals are a masterclass, with the correct emotions to go along Underwood delivers a rock solid track.

This record also features Underwood in her first ever joint effort in 'What Can I Say'. She brings around her fiddle player, Ashley Clark and his band-mates and gives an extremely smart love song. I find it quite surprising that Underwood's vocals are not out-shining Ashley's vocals. She has done an excellent job in harmonizing with her partner, and that my friends is the most important thing when you are recording a duet. It is supposed to look like a joint effort! Hats off to Underwood for a wonderful duet!

'Someday When I Stop Loving You', 'Temporary Home' and 'Look At Me' are some of the slower numbers on the record. Underwood gives her most heartfelt and soulful recordings ever on these track. The lyrics are crafted with excellence and Underwood's delicate finesse on the vocals is a joy. Very much reminiscent of her previous efforts but with more emotional sincerity and maturity, she simply amazes me! I'm damn glad she was discovered. It would have been a real shame for such a talent to go undiscovered.

And how can a Carrie Underwood record be complete without a thought provoking track?! Never!

That's one of the things I love most about the Country Queen. Besides the usual love, heart break, fun stuff and dance anthems she gives songs that make you think. Songs that are actually thought provoking. And this time around, she gives not one! Not two! But three such tracks!

'Mama's Song', 'Change' and 'Play On' are the three tracks that actually make a person think. 'Change' is a personal favorite of mine and the most favorite of mine amongst the whole bunch. Judge this by the fact alone, that I've played it 137 times since November 3rd. I'm that crazy about it! I would be extremely excited if this gets chosen as a single! It is my sincere request to all those reading the review to listen to it and drop in the comment section what you think about the concept of the song. I'm absolutely head over heels in love with it!

I can't say enough to describe how awesome this record has turned out to be. It definitely is one of the best records to be released this year and the wait has been totally worth it. I won't be surprised if this adds more millions to the millions she already has. And even with all that in her purse, the country super-star is extremely humble.

All the Right Moves - One Republic

One Republic are set to release their follow-up effort Waking Up to the very successful debut album, Dreaming Out Loud on November 17th. The first single off the record 'All the Right Moves' was released on September 29th.

It's an awesome track in my humble opinion. Tedder's vocals are simply crazy through out the track and the harmonizing makes it just pure no-guilt joy. The video premiered on October 8th and has a very cool masquerade theme to it, you can check out it here.

This is a live version of the song performed on the Ellen Degeneres, I like the twist they have put up by making the track more up-tempo. And yes, you simply have to love Ellen!

This week X Factor paid tribute to the Rock Gods and the contestants were to sing rock songs. John and Edward took on the Queen ever-living hit 'We Will Rock You'!

When I first got to know about their song choice, I was abit taken back as I happen to be super-possesive about Queen and their songs. I simply can't pick a favorite! They all are amazing! But even then, I was looking forward to them perform.

Firstly I knew that they are going to put their own wonderful, crazy and energetic twist to it. And secondly, I knew they would piss Simon off! Not that I have anything against that man but I just like to see him getting thrown off all in good-spirit ofcourse.

And yes, they survived! I can't wait to see what awesome horror they have in store for us next week.

About You Now - Snow Patrol

One of my favorite cover versions of all time is the Snow Patrol rendition of the Sugababes chart-topper 'About You Now'.

It isn't quite like the original up-tempo pop smash hit like the girls did it, but then again the whole point of covering a song is to do it in your own unique way. It's indeed one of the best covers out there!

I love how they made it more soulful! Sorry the video isn't all that cracked up to be about, but it's the best I could find! Enjoy!

My Favorites @ X Factor Season 6

First up is Stacey Solomon, the 19 year old single mother. She started the audition with a very wonderful audition of 'What a Wonderful World' and it was at that moment that she became my absolute favorite.

Her performance lacks the hoo-ha and jumping around, but her vocals are completely and utterly amazing. She covered Coldplay 'The Scientist' and it was such a surprising song choice. She's definitely the best of the group of this season. Do check her out!

Next up we have the 27 yr old teacher, Danyl Johnson. He's got an amazing voice, no doubt. But I have a feeling that he plays up abit in his performances and I have a very strong notion that his audition was choreographed or staged to some extent. He's the producers favorite to win and one of mine as well.

Oh and I love his dressing sense, but I'm not a fan of his song choices. He's a vocal power house for sure. I didn't immediately take a like to him but I can't deny it, his performances are simply too good.

I've saved the best for last for you guys! Coined as the Welsh Wonder is the 19 year old, Lucie Jones.

Opening her show page with the Whitney Houston classic 'I Will Always Love You' she blew everyone away. When she announced her song choice, I mentally thought she as gone. But by the time she had just gone through the first verse, she had me completely turned around.

Covered a Leona Lewis original 'Footprints In The Sand' on her first LIVE! performance and since then she's just gone better and better. Plus, she's really good looking!

Well these three happen to be my favorite from this season besides for John & Edward, but they are my favorite for a completely different reason.

Were They Even Thinking?!

In just the past 24 hours, my poor eyes were tortured twice. The first time it happened when I saw the cover art for Rihaan's new album 'Rated R' due for release on 23rd November.

Now I know she's going for a more dark and edgy feel on the album, but does it have to so dark that it looks bad. The emo Rihanna is so much-over done and plus it doesn't go with every person. Avril can pull that look off, so can Green Day. But Rihanna?!

I so don't know what transpired her to select that as the cover.

And if that wasn't enough, I got to see Adam Lambert's cover later during the day. And I was speechless!

I don't even know how to comment on it. The only thing I can say is that I won't be caught dead with that album in my hands. I wasn't a Glambert during the Idol run but I was looking forward to his album because there is some heavy talent involved in it's production. I hope the album has a better appeal to it!

Adam's album titled 'For Your Entertainment' is also set to be released on 23rd November along with Timbaland's 'Shock Value 2', Britney Spears' Singles Collection, Lil Wayne's 'Rebirth' and Susan Boyle's debut album. Hang in there!

Deliciously Bad!!

So I know there was supposed to be a post up about my X-Factor favorite from the on-going season. And I do have my favorites picked out but I just can't seem to find the time to put them up. But that post will be coming up the coming Thursday.

Right now I wanted to introduce you to another contestant, who happens another one of my favorites. The reason I'm posting this one before the others is because they are too good to be missed, and that is not because of their vocals.

By the alst para, you must have noticed that it's a plural. And yes, they are!

They are brothers! And not only that, but they are twin brothers. Going by the name of John and Edward, they have taken the entire show by storm and are most definitely the 'Most Talked' about contestants of the season.

Competing under the Group Category, they continue to delivers trainwrecks after plane crashes that are just so good to watch. It's a crazy guilty pleasure and I'm so looking forward to seeing them week after week. And I seriously hope they stick around till all the 'boring' contestants take a boot.

One is one of my favorite songs! Infact the very first time I became addicted to it was it when Channel V premiered it's Mary J. Blige. The song originally took birth in 1992 but in 2006, One recorded along with Mary J. Blige as mentioned earlier as a part of the ONE Campaign by Bono.

The song recieved a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals and has frequently been featured in the list for Greatest Songs of All Times. Enjoy!

Breakaway; Kelly Clarkson

Breakaway is the name of the most successful and most selling Idol album to date! Clarkson took a very different direction as compared to her debut effort, Thankful, this time around. Edging away from her mixture of pop and R&B, Clarkson made an effort to sound original and ventured into a fusion of pop music and rock. It was definitely one of her best decisions to date. The album earned numerous praise from critics, two Grammy awards and a whole new much wider fan base.

Clarkson worked with Max Martin, Lukasz Gottwald, Mathew Gerrard, David Hodges, Kara Dioguardi, Raine Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk while in production of the album. She also sat down with the Canadian singer, song-writer Avril Lavigne who wrote the starting track of the album, which also happens to share it's name with the title of the record. The tracklisting is as follows;

It's really hard to pick a favorite among them and seriously I don't have a favorite either. All the tracks are extremely amazing and there is no way you can get tired of listening to them. It's been four years since it's release and this is another album that is still going strong on my personal charts. As I said earlier, it is the most successful Idol album to date.

'Breakaway', 'Where Is Your Heart' and 'Hear Me' display the softer side of Clarkson as she croons and falsettoes her way through these tracks. I love the piano work in 'Where Is Your Heart', it's so soothing and that is a mark of a Chantal Kreviazuk composition. It's absolutely breath-taking. Clarkson's vocals and harmonizing also shine during 'Breakaway', the song was featured in the OST of Princess Diaries 2; The Royal Engagement which was released about 6 months before the album's release.

Another ballad that is worth mentioning is 'Because Of You', the reason I took it to a seperate paragraph is that there is just something so surreal about this track. It is crazy awesome! Absolutely amazing! Highly captivating! One of the best songs ever by Clarkson in my humble opinion, I've also put down a LIVE! version of it on my blog previously. You can check that out here.

'Since U Been Gone', 'Behind These Hazel Eyes', 'Gone', 'Addicted', 'Walk Away', 'You Found Me' and 'I Hate Myself for Loosing You' are the songs with the rocker chick vibe to them. 'Since U Been Gone' won the Grammy award for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance". Along with 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' and 'You Found Me' it is a mix of pop and rock. 'Addicted' is a soulful rock track and is in no way any less awesome than the rest of the songs. Songs like 'Gone', 'Walk Away' and 'I Hate Myself for Loosing You' are completely hard-core rock tracks, where you find Clarkson bringing everything she has on to the place. And believe me, you will be more than just satisfied.

The last three tracks off the record include a LIVE! version of 'Beautiful Disaster' from her previous album Thankful. The other two tracks are also from the same album, and are featured as they seem to hold a glimmer of the same technique as that employed in the rock tracks of the record.

This album is most definitely one of the keeps. Do check it out!

Gaga about Gaga

Okay so I know ít's been a while since Lady Gaga has stepped into the music scene and taken it by storm. In just a matter of two singles, Lady Gaga was the hot topic on every forum. Whether it was because of her catchy songs with well-crafted lyrics and rythmic melodies or due to her bizzare fashion sense or how she varies her LIVE! performances or she stood up openly and proudly for the LGBT community. Lady Gaga has constantly been in the spot-light and deserves it as well.

Her debut album 'The Fame' released in 2008 became one of the best-selling and most successful album of that year. Spawning 'Pokeface', 'Just Dance' and 'Love Game' which creeped into nearly everybody's iPod. And this year she plans to re-release it with eight never-heard-before tracks, of which the first 'Bad Romance' has already hit the airwaves.

Now my fascination with Gaga was pretty crazy. Being a song-writer, her songs captured me instantly. Mainly because of her intriguing titles which completely threw me off guard and I just had to listen to it. And after just two complete listenings to the album, Gaga had me wrapped around her little finger. In other words, I was completely floored. And yes, I self-appointed myself as the Ambassador of Gaga in my college. I spread the word to who ever hung out with me long enough to listen.

And now with the re-release I mentioned earlier, I'm completely Gaga-fied! 'Bad Romance' is set to premiere on 19th, that is the coming Monday and I can't wait!

This is Crazy Awesome!!

This song is so awesome!! Alexandra Burke was one of my favorite contestants from last year, I'm glad she won!! And ever since she won I have been waiting for her debut album to drop! And the moment is finally here, her album Overcome is set to be released on October 19th. Damn, I can't wait!!

Her album was the most anticipated for me in the month of October and don't even get me started on November!
So many big names dropping in Carrie Underwood on 3rd. And then Kris Allen, Leona Lewis and Norah Jones all are slated for 17 th November. Also there is Adam Lambert set to take the world by storm on 24th! November is going to be phenomenal!!

Anyhow coming back to Alexandra, so her album is set to be released on 19th. But her first single 'Bad Boys' has already been released and just last week she performed it on the X Factor Results show LIVE!
She did an amazing performance! Seriously one of the best! And it has made me even more excited for her album! 19th October...why are you taking so long to get here?!

Dance Love Pop; Agnes Carlsson

Agnes Carlsson is the winner of the second season of Swedish Idol and the most successful singer to be discovered in the singing competition. Dance Love Pop happens to be her third album and the first one that is being released and promoted in the US. I discovered her recently as well when a song from her was featured on another blog, you can check out the blog here. Do drop the guy a comment, he's got one of the most awesome blogs I've ever seen.

Coming back to Ms. Carlsson, she's is an amazing talent! And now she's my second favorite artist from Sweden, the first being the Cardigans. An awesome band who I will be posting about sooner or later, keep checking in.

Released in 2008, the album consists mostly of tracks that are a mix of pop or R&B with dance. Yes, that's right! Every single song on the album can become a dance floor anthem, even without any need of remixing it. But there a few ballads included as well, one of them being my favorite. The album consists of 10 tracks, one of which is in collaboration with Kara Dioguardi. The track listing is as follows;

As very obvious from the title, the album is filled with love songs. 'Release Me', ' On and On', 'How Do You Know', 'Look At Me Now', 'Don't Pull Your Love Out' and 'Open Up Your Eyes' are complete dance anthems.

'Release Me', 'How Do You Know' and 'Look At Me Now' are particular stand outs. The rhythm is extremely catchy and will have you moving in no time. Agnes vocals are somewhat reminiscent of a younger and more care free Mariah Carey without that ear shattering falsetto.

'Love Me Senseless' is an potential R&B chart-toppers. Agnes has done an amazing job on it, especially towards the last portion of the song where she goes into a lower range for a moment or two and then slowly builds it back up to her normal range.

'I Need You Now', 'Sometimes I Forget' and 'Big Blue Walls' are the few ballads from the album. The first of these three is a really worth listening. It's in tracks like these that you notice the raw talent in her voice, it's a completely stripped back track with minor instrumental involvement. It's amazing! And that's putting it mildly.

Dance Love Pop is a complete success and should definitely work amazing in promoting Agnes into the American Mainstream. She's doing a pretty good job, with the four singles she has released under the album.However only two have been blessed with a music video. And though 'Release Me' and 'On and On' had an already present music video, upon the launch of Dance Love Pop in US they made new music videos for both the songs. You can check out the new video of 'Release Me' and 'On and On' here.

Earlier this year, the Love Love Love Edition was released, it features seventeen tracks in total. There are seven new tracks, which are as follows;

The extended version doesn't seem to offer much especially if your not a big fan of remixes of any kind. 'Love Love Love' which was Agnes's entry into the Eurovision Song Contest. This track is her best one yet. I'm completely in love with it and I'm telling to whoever I can that they should listen to it. So you guys, listen to it. There has been no music video released so I've included a LIVE! version for you guys over here.

'On and On ( Anotha Ding-an Be-An Version )' is definitely the lamest song on the entire disc and it hasn't appealed to me at all. In fact I'm slightly annoyed by it. The supposedly catchy hook is very irritating and very hard to block out.

The acoustic version of 'Release Me' and 'On and On' are decent enough. She proves her immense potential as a LIVE! performer in those two gems, worth lending an ear to. As for the remix, well they will do. I would have rather included some more brand new tracks. The extended version might be abit of a let down, but the original album is definitely one for the keeps.

And it's creepy how much she looks like Leona Lewis. Check this out!

Just Stand Up - Various Artist

Last year several female artists belonging to the genres of pop, R&B, country and rock gathered under banner of Stand Up To Cancer for the charity single, Just Stand Up.

Orginally the line-up included Mariah Carey, Beyonce Knowles, Keyshia Cole, Mary J. Blige, Carrie Underwood, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, Natasha Bedingfield, Leona Lewis, Ashanti, Ciara, Lee So Young, Sheryl Crow, Melissa Etheridge and LeAnn Rimes. But the last three could not appear in the LIVE! performance and Nichole Scherzinger taking on a few of their lines.

The song was a complete success and managed to not only raise alot of money but also gave them amazing promotion.

In my own humble opinion, the song is amazing! I love it! But I would not have placed Miley Cyrus in the line-up. Putting all the claims of her talent aside, her inexperience clearly showed. If they wanted to include someone for the tweenies, even Taylor Swift or Jordin Sparks could have done that and they would have definitely sounded much better.

Also I was pretty much surprised that artists like Alicia Keys, Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson were not featured. But never the less, it's a really good song and this week's LIVE! performance.

Hard Candy; Madonna

Madonna released her eleventh studio effort on April 25, 2008 under the title of Hard Candy. Mostly built around the purpose of dancing, the album features some of the grooviest tunes I've ever heard. Seriously, you just can't help but to dance!

Madonna is known for arranging her music, primarily around the genre of dance. However compared to her previous effort, Confessions on a Dance floor; this one feels a little less dance orientated. But do not mistake the quality! It's just as good if not better! Most of the tracks settle down with the listener immediately owing to their catchy rhythms, addictive hooks and Madonna's intoxicating vocals. The track listing is as below;

'4 Minutes' and 'Give It 2 Me' are two of the best songs from 2008 in my opinion. I heard them just once and I immediately went crazy after them. They both are up-tempo electro dance anthems, like most of the tracks on the album.

The R&B influence comes from songs like 'Voices', 'Spanish Lesson', 'She's Not Me' and 'Miles Away'. These are not as much electro as the other tracks and mostly display Madonna's stripped down vocals with background vocals. A particular stand out amongst these tracks is the song 'Spanish Lesson', there is just something so amazing about this track. This track is pure genius, in every aspect from song-writing to production. I was really surprised when this track was not released as a single. 'She's Not Me' is another shiner you need to lend your ear to.'

'Devil Wouldn't Recognize You' was the track which immediately caught my eye and later on my ears. The title is just so odd that it makes you curious. A smooth ballad walking along the lines R&B and pop, it's crazy awesome! There is a reason Madonna is celebrated world-wide and tracks like this and '4 Minutes' clearly explain why is that so!

'Candy Shop' is another worthwhile mention. It is clearly in sync with the theme of the album. Madonna sings about her diversity in music relating it to the sweet world of candy. And yes, it is as catchy as the rest!

There really isn't much to say about this creation. As most, if not all, Madonna album it's honed and toned to perfection. Of the two major dance album released last year, Madonna's Hard Candy definitely takes the cake!

I Did It!!

Okay so it's time for a post about moa!! As some of you or probably most of you maybe knowing that I had gone to States past summer for about three months. It was there that the idea of posting LIVE! videos had popped into my head.

The entire reason why I wanted to do so was because firstly I'm often looking at these videos online, I'm a big time YouTube Junkie! :D

Secondly many times it happens that artist change their songs up by a few words or in arrangement in order to give the audience a taste of something new, as it was noticed in the very first LIVE! video I posted of Jordin Sparks performing 'Battlefield' in the Jonas Brothers Concert.

And lastly, many times various artist sing songs by others with a twist of their own and then some sing it exactly it was sun originally (BORRRRINNGGG!!!). Anyhow most people do not come to know of this unless that particular video goes mega-popular.

So I decided that every week I'm going to be putting up one video, and more if I'm able to find the time and video as well. Howoever it became really hard to do so in Pakistan given that I'm busy with my studies and most importantly, videoes take forever over here to upload. I'm not kidding! They take forever!

And if that isn't bad enough, you can't do anything while they are being uploaded. Because if you do, there is a pretty good chance that you will be getting some error later on. Sick and tired of just sitting there, I decided to try embedding the videos.

Before I go any further, let me clarify one thing. I'm so not a computer person, the only time I scored good in the practical exams of Computer was during MS Office classes. Rest of the time, I flunked! Thank God, our computer grade was not accounted into the total grade.

So coming back to embedding, I was pretty much hopeless about it and I had nearly faced the fact that there will be no more LIVE! postings. But then I tried and OMG! OMG! OMG! I did it!

Hahahahaha, I'm not kidding guys! That was my exact reaction! I felt awesome! Infact way beyond awesome!

And I know this classifies as such a lame post but I felt like going ahead with it. Couldn't help it! Had to post it!

I had totally forgotten about this LIVE! version until I saw it yesterday on Channel V. And out went Cyndi Lauper's 'Time After Time' and came in 'L'isten' by Beyonce.

This has definitely got to be one of the best LIVE! performances ever by Beyonce. Don't get me wrong here, I love the booty humping, sassy Beyonce like any other red blooded male out there. But this one gets me most! :p

Some Hearts; Carrie Underwood

After winning the American Idol in 2005, Carrie Underwood propelled herself to mega-stardom. But what begun then, was only a hint of what was to come her way. Since then she's come along way. Currently she's about to release her third studio album, titled Play On. Besides that she has been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, and happens to be there youngest member. She has recieved over eight Grammy nomination, that is the most any American Idol has ever had; and she's won four of them. Also she is a phenomenon during the Country Music Awards and has bagged 'Female Entertainer of the Year', twice in a row. And if all that is not enough, she's on the number uno spot on Forbes list of American Idol winners. And all that has happened in just four years!

Before I start of going on about different tracks, two tracks that I would particularly like to mention are 'Jesus, Take the Wheel' and 'Inside Your Heaven'. The latter being the winner's single of the fourth season of American Idol. Both of these tracks have a slighty influence of Christian music, and for Carrie's voice these songs are perfect. They are signature Carrie songs and no one can ever do it any better! So these two, I'd definitely recommend them to all.

'Wasted', 'Some Hearts' and 'Lessons Learned' are some of the faster track that stick to the country theme through out their running. 'Some Hearts' is a particular stand out from the three and is another song that I would recommend you to listen to. Sadly it does happen to be a released single but it happens to have no music video to go along with it.

Two other up tempo track that are present in the album happen to be 'Before He Cheats', 'I Ain't in Checotah Anymore' and 'We're Young and Beautiful'. The first song has a slighty influence of rock and the latter two have a tinge of pop. Amongst these three, 'Before He Cheats' is a phenomenon. If you haven't heard it, you have got to be living under a rock! Numerous Grammy nominations, numerous CMA nominations, a VMA nomination. This track propelled Underwood to heights that no Idol achieved from their debut album! Not even Clarkson, though I love Clarkson more than Underwood. But again then it's a personal opinion.

'Don't Forget to Remember Me', 'The Night Before (Life Goes On)', 'Starts With a Goodbye', 'I Just Can't Live a Lie', 'That's Where It Is' and 'Whenever You Remember Me' are the slower tracks of the album. But even then they won't put you to sleep. Underwood has the most amazing vocals on these beauties! They're full of emotions that tend to stir and shake the listener. 'Don't Forget To Remember Me' is a real gem, but my personal favorite track happens to be 'I Just Can't Live a Lie' amongst all of the forementioned track.

'Whenever You Remember' is also another special track for a very different reason. On our School Farewell Event, this track was chosen as a closing theme by the students as our out-going message. And if you're thinking that I had given that suggestion, then yes...you know me so well! ;)

Of all the album I've heard in '05, this one was the best! Every single track became my favorite and even though it's about to be four years since it's release, this album still is on my rack and I still listen to it!
